Phrases from a Chinese Dictionary

Leah loaned me one of her treasures -- a 1932 Chinese-English dictionary. It's lovely. The binding is leather, and it was set with hard type ... you can feel the texture of the impact of the lead type on each sheet of paper.

I couldn't find what dream augured a son. Dictionaries not being too themed, like that.

Fascinating! I'd love to hear the story behind some of those phrases. You just know there's a legend or something behind some of them.
