Being born is like being kidnapped. And then sold into slavery (-is Shakespeare really Andy Warhol?)

Alyonka came over yesterday and we were going to watch three sheets (anyone? I didn't think so), but I asked her about a show in her library called "Search for the Next Elvira" (...anyone? I will be very very impressed), which she then insisted on turning on. I can't... I can't even describe it. The best-worse puns ever. American Idol, except ( Read more... )

First - I'm glad you liked it! I seriously felt so good about this - writing it took me less time than any short story I've ever succumbed to before. I'm glad you like Kate and Lena, because at some point, I fell in love with them. I think I'm really aligned with Kate's POV in the story, to the point where when I think of telling future stories about them, they're all from her perspective. There's just something about her "I" that I love. I'm seriously to the point where I am thinking of writing a novel about them. Or at least a connected cycle of short stories.

I thought we had the Lion King/Hamlet conversation when we went to see Lion King with humanities? Did you miss this? My sister started reading Hamlet for humanities and she kept asking me "who was who" in comparison to the Lion King.

I totally love that quote about art giving life its shape. Good ol' Shakespeare. He knew what he was doing.

I know who Elvira is, but I can honestly say I'd never heard of the show. And it does sound decidedly oops-we-accidentally-parodied-ourselves.

OH MY GOSH. FAVORITE DISNEY SCENE EVER. I used to watch that movie every week. (And it's funny, because the crap sequel was supposed to be based on Romeo and Juliet, for the sake of keeping up appearances, I guess.)
