Arthur/Eames, office/mundane AU - exhibitionism anonymous February 25 2011, 23:01:50 UTC
Eames has a flat next door to an office building, maybe 100 feet away. When he has his blinds open, he can see into an architecture or graphic design office. There is an intriguing, young, quite attractive, well-groomed, suit-sporting employee there whose desk is at the window. Who happens to work late quite often. Alone. And Eames... gets ideas about what he can do in front of his own window.

Would prefer less skeevy and more seduction-at-a-distance-and-in-silence, if filler so desires. Either POV would actually be fine.

This is in no way related to the layout of my own building or a person I see from it. *shifty eyes*

Anon, I thought this was wonderful and sweet and sexy.

I didn't find the comments misogynistic if taken in context of the character and their condition (yes I'm a woman who appreciates that the world isn't perfect in regards to how women in modern western societies are treated socially). I understand that people could look at it that way, but in context I don't think it's valid.

If you ever do decide to change that part of the story in future, be very careful to ensure you can make the same kind of point about the character and their state of mind, and just as efficiently, without changing the implicit sense of the character or story itself. I'd hate to see a knee-jerk reaction change the story to something less.

Yes, I liked what you wrote that much. ;)

Don't worry; I just thought, in light of those comments, there were some things I could do to clarify the in-story comments about romance novels, etc., in the case of a re-write: gently emphasizing that they stemmed from Eames' own dislike of his job and disappointment that his life hadn't turned out the way he wanted/expected.

And I hope my note didn't come off as asking for support or a rallying against the person who complained; I just wanted to have it available, in case anyone else felt similarly, because I could see where that interpretation came from.

Regardless, I'm glad you enjoyed the fill.

I loved this. <3

It's a rare thing, but I really heard Yusuf's voice in this. You did so well on his characterization, especially. I felt for Eames as a stuck-in-a-rut writer. And no, I didn't find his thoughts offensive. They were sadly in character for his mood and his bitterness. Some people just need to get over themselves.

BUT! This was wonderful. I was hooked by the first few lines. I'd love to see more of yours, if you care to point the way. Anon or not, you're a great writer.

I am glad you liked Yusuf in this--his characterization was fun to write, and I thought it balanced this Eames well ( ... )

LOVE!!!! SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS FIC! And I'm totally at the library and my husband came up behind me when I had that "appeal of vaginas" line at the top of my screen, which caused some arched eyebrows at what exactly I'm reading on the library computers, but whatever. It was so worth it to read this fic.

Thank you!

Library computers are the best/worst, in that way.
