Arthur/Eames anonymous July 5 2011, 14:59:38 UTC
Military documents detailing the development of dreamsharing end up on Wikileaks, including papers exposing the key players. Arthur's overbearing family, who for years have bullied him about his career (faked dishonourable discharge, failure to follow politician father etc.) learn just how good he really is, and what he suffered. They realise why Arthur never introduced them to Eames, the boyfriend they long ago wrote of as imaginary. BAMF!arthur please.

I like the real world aspect of this. Seconded!

Probably not exactly what you were looking for, anon, but it was fun to write.
_______

Nothing Happens

Arthur is not the first one to text. It's five AM on the island and Eames is already drinking. Still drinking.

Semantics, he thinks.

"Did you see," is the first text he gets.

The second one says "Sorry."

The third one is from Arthur. It says, "Flight in5, pk lt."

*

Arthur, on the other hand:

"Arthur," his sister says. "Are you paying attention?"

He isn't, not entirely. He's booking Dom Cobb a flight to Toronto and expediting one of the extra passports he's had made for him. Behind that, a wire transfer from Lloyd is tracking, and he's got a Skype call (well, it looks like Skype) to Sergeant Poole on hold.

"Yes," he says. "Do you realize it's two in the morning?"

"I'm going to ask you one more time," she says. "Are you or are you not listed as a--as a lab rat on this new WikiLeak ( ... )

There's a car waiting for "M. Bouloir" at the airport, which can only be Arthur's doing, but Eames hires a cab anyway and gives them an address in Arthur's city. He wears a bucket hate he purchased at his layover in Fort Worth and the aviators he knows make him look like a douche. His Hawaiian shirt is poorly made and does not fit him in the shoulders, and his shorts are old and from Target. He mailed his shoes to himself. There's a sticker on the bottom of his left flipflop ( ... )

This was pretty brilliant. I love the low-key relationship you have going on here, and I love when Arthur gets written as Badass Normal.

Lovely <3 Arthur is so nonchalantly efficient, and Eames just rolls with it.

This was so fantastic, author-anon. I kind of adore how Arthur went into calm-but-overdrive mode and Eames just chilled along for the ride. And the warm, stable, steadying interaction between them was just great.

Bahahaha at Cobb not even bothering to catch his flight. OH COBB, has retirement made you laaazy? :D

Thank you for the fill!

This was great. I love all the dynamics here, and Arthur's overreaction without it seeming too much like an overreaction.

I love how much you packed into such a spare little story. This prompt could have led to something long and dramatic with Arthur's family but you kept it totally believable and badass.
