Arthur/Eames, sapiosexualitybookshopAugust 16 2010, 02:47:12 UTC
Arthur likes boys, and Arthur likes girls. But the one thing that gets him hotter than anything else is intelligence. If he has any type at all, it's confident, educated, well-read, multi-cultural, and sophisticated, and unafraid to show it.
Suffice it to say: he doesn't think Eames is his type at all. But then something happens that puts the two of them alone in a brand-new setting, and Eames just switches on on a whole new level that Arthur's never seen before.
The subject under discussion can be up to the writer, but the point is that whatever it is, it lets Eames' show off his smart, fascinating, intellectual, frequently underestimated brilliant side. And it turns Arthur on so much that he has a hard time not giving himself away

YES. also! he obviously plays dumb at least in part to get a rise out of Arthur because when he talks to Cobb and Saito he's all business and articulation, IT'S ONLY WHEN HE'S MAKING FUN OF ARTHUR BEING PRISSY THAT HE'S ALL, OOOH, BIG WORDS. klsf;a. *has maybe thought about this a bit too much*
HE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN PRONOUNCE SAITO'S NAME CORRECTLY. <-- YES THANK YOU OH MY GOD.
also just the sheer amount of human empathy you need to have to be the best forger of people in the business, and he obviously is the best. And he's probably the most grounded, self-actualized person on the team despite being the one who literally loses his identity in the dream state. I would think that takes a massive amount of intelligence and self-awareness

AND SOMETIMES DOES IT WHILE GETTING SHOT AT his grip on that weapon was so fucking textbook, I can't even- it looks almost militant, and I'm pretty sure that he was in some form of the military/armed forces/authoritative figure position.
His reaction time after Arthur shouted his name was literally like half a second. Movie editing aside, he was quick, efficient, and rock solid in his stance.
People seem to think that Arthur is the grounded one, the one with the most talent and skill, but I honestly think that while Arthur is pretty good at a lot of things, Eames is extremely good at a few things, you know? Takes more concentration, anyway

Thirding or fourthing or whatever-we're-up-to-ing everything that has been said here... THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF INTELLIGENCE AND BRILLIANCE, MY FRIENDS. *Huddles in the corner with the EAMES IS NOT STOOPID camp. Possibly paints banners.*
Re: Arthur/Eames, sapiosexualitybronsonAugust 16 2010, 19:28:52 UTC
FIFTHING. IDEK WHAT IT IS, MAN, BUT EAMES GOT THE JOB DONE. LIKE, HE SERIOUSLY DID. WHEN COBB STARTED ANGSTING ABOUT MAL OR WHATEVER AND OF THEY WENT TO LIMBO, HE TOTES HANDLED HIS SHIT AND PULLED HIS OWN MFING WEIGHT AND THEN SOME.
And oh my God, I didn't realize that about the air ducts. :OOOO
Re: Arthur/Eames, sapiosexualityrayvenblackwoodAugust 17 2010, 01:36:29 UTC
AND A SIXTH because I was disappointed and confused throughout the rest of the movie as he dumbed himself down it seems, because he's just so straightforward and blase about getting to what Cobb actually needed to do instead of trying to figure out the complex idea (I may or may not amuse myself by breaking down words to their most base root...just like Eames...)
I absolutely agree with militiarized Eames, though I also believe that Arthur was militiarized.
THIS IS A LONG COMPLICATED WAY OF SAYING BOOKSHOP, YOU ARE FRIENDED AND DO NOT GET A CHOICE IN THE MATTER! You too anon, if you ever un-anon.

AUGH, THIS THISSSSS like I mean, I don't imagine that Eames is a Very Nice Man, but that doesn't mean he's completely apathetic. And there is a lot of trust that he puts in Saito, given the man's current dying state.
Re: Arthur/Eames, sapiosexualitysparkledarkAugust 16 2010, 17:42:07 UTC
omg thank you for this. Eames seems to me to be totally erudite, posh and super-competent. Was so surprised to find borderline-illiterate fanon Eames :( he seems like the kind of genius who doesn't have to try very hard- things just come naturally to him- and he is playful, so maybe people don't recognize his true brilliance, idk! He totally did the whole inception job practically by himself! Lul I am friending you because of your comments here. I need smart!eames friends too. Hope you don't mind!

Urgh, I KNOW, right? Eames is ridiculously smart. You don't get to be one of the best in his business without being utterly smart and sharp and self-aware, because damn, to be someone else you'd have to know yourself so well in order to be able to hide all your own quirks and habits. I mean, we all have tics and things we don't even know we do, ways of speaking, ways of standing - and Eames would have erase every one of those in order to be convincing. That's just not imitating someone else, you know?
Plus, maybe because I'm English myself, but that kind of self-deprecating humour is so typical. The idea that Eames likes to play with people's expectations of him, act like he's less than he is, play with the stereotype - I love that.
