Cauldron. I'm coming back from a break in RPing and a friend recommended
this game.
Where did you hear about our RPG? Through Miranda, Katie's Player
The following situations may or may not arise over the course of the
game. You, as a player, are never required to participate in anything you do not wish, but the situations might arise around you. This is an adult game set in a fantasy world where there are definite bad-guys out there.
Having said that, please tell us you you feel about:
Het, slash and femmeslash: I don't mind as long as it's not trashy
NC-17 material: Same
Violence: Gotta kick butt, violence is a necessary evil.
Part Two- Character Info
Character Name: Luna Lovegood
Age: 19
Birthday: February 20th, 1981
Wand: Willow / Dragon Scale / 13 inches / rather springy
House in School: Ravenclaw
Bloodline: (Pureblood,Half-blood, Muggle born) Pureblood
Political View: Luna is a neutral person. She would ideally love to
spend most of her time thinking of all the oddities of the world, but she
has a very firm belief in right and wrong. She also likes the challenges of
learning new things and believes that the world needs to learn more new
things and not be so closed-minded about what they do not understand.
Appearance
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 120 lbs
Build: Luna is a willowy type of figure. Her stature and physique
match her easily changed nature, though she does take care of herself. She
is neither too thin, nor overweight, just right for what is necessary. She
believes that doting on one's appearance is shallow and leaves less time for
the 'important' matters of life, like where the Nargles put her radish
earrings.
Eyes: Blue/Grey
Hair: Blonde with lighter tones that run more towards platinum.
Dress style: Luna never really worries too much about what she wears.
As long as it is comfortable and matches somewhat sufficiently, she is
pleased. She loves to accessorize with oddities, such as her cork necklace
to ward off the Nargles, and her radish earrings to improve learning
potential. Recently she has taken to collecting oddities from friends and
her travels. Saris from different places matched with pants and often
mismatched socks, if she remembers to wear any at all.
Discerning Marks: (include basic appearance, discerning marks, style,
etc.) Luna is a dreamy eyed girl. She is often remembered for the spaced out
look in her eyes and her odd accessories. Luna also has a scar along her
left shoulder and down her back from a severing charm received in the final
battle in February of 2000.
PB:(Played By--this is the actor, actress or model you will be using
for your character icon in the game.) Alyson Michalka
Sexuality: (include details about sexual orientation, history, and
give valid reasons for your character being gay/bisexual/straight/transgendered) Luna is a caring creature, but
sexuality was never at the top of her list. Technically speaking, she would
be considered straight, as she has shown some interest in males in her life,
though it is uncertain if she is entirely interested in the opposite sex at
all. Her personality and wandering ways often have her far too distracted to
think of men or relationships. Her job at the Quibbler also keeps her very
busy, though she does miss her friends, especially Neville, whom she learned
a lot from over the years.
Psychology
Introvert/Extrovert Luna is mostly an introvert. She keeps to herself
with minimal interaction with those outside of whom she considers friends,
chief among them being Harry Potter. She is by no means a mouse though; she
is known to stand up for what she believes in quite wholeheartedly against
those that would speak ill of them.
Boggart is? Explain. Luna's boggart would be losing her father. After
witnessing the death of her mother, losing her father would be an awful
thing for Luna to face.
Patronus--can they produce one? What is it and why does it have
that form? Luna's patronus is a Rabbit. Rabbits are fiercely loyal
creatures that are known for guiding lost travelers back from the void. They
are also seen as creatures that bring luck and companionship.
Personality
Luna's personality is a bit odd. She has a fascination with learning
about things that most people would never consider to learn about. She is
quiet, but caring. She doesn't judge anyone based on their origins or past.
Everything with Luna is based on merit. If the person merits a modicum of
respect, she will grant it. Even when the person doesn't deserve respect,
she believes that they have some good in them, even the worst apples have a
reason for the way that they are.
Luna doesn't much care for politics, as they are all based on judgment of
others. She avoids the ministry as much as possible, knowing that they don't
usually tell the truth. They twist things how they want to use them and
rarely see what is in front of their eyes. Luna learned that at an early age
through their reaction to the return of Voldemort. She doesn't support the
ministry at all. She supports her friends and those that seek to prove the
truth and preserve justice.
Family
Parents? Timothy Lovegood, editor of the Quibbler. Mother is
deceased.
Siblings? None
Family dynamics--do they get along? Opposite sides of the war? Accept
their child's magical talent? Pressure for 'pure blood' marriage?
Timothy and Luna are very close. They have a very good relationship and keep
each other company most of the time. They are both eccentric and don't judge
each other. Luna and her father believed in Harry and supported his efforts
during the war. It was through their support that many actually learned of
the return of the Dark Lord.
Timothy supports Luna's lifestyle and her unique personality. He doesn't
pressure her to do anything other than herself. He encourages her to
continue to believe in herself and walk her own path. Marriage isn't
something that he expects of her, but expects that someday she will want it
for herself, just as he did. Muggle, wizard, or Nargle, he'd support
whatever made her happy. He only wants her to find someone that will
understand and appreciate her uniqueness.
Lifestyle
Occupation: Luna works with her father at the Quibbler. She enjoys
learning about new things and exposing others to them through her writings.
She's still considered to be 'loony' but she does write on important issues
that she believes in as well.
Residence: Luna lives with her father, needing nothing more then what
she has at home. Her father doesn't push her out, so she lives in the same
room she grew up in, albeit with more 'things' to clutter her life. Her room
looks like a veritable chasm of eccentricity with mismatching everything,
crystals, plants, beads, pillows, paintings…. It is all very 'calming' to
her but would probably give anyone else a migraine.
Financial Status: Luna is fairly well off. She has enough money to
support her and has her father's support as well. She doesn't want for
anything, but she doesn't require many things either. She mostly spends her
money on her eccentric collection and traveling.
History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time: include
any affiliations since Hogwarts, jobs, family life, significant events in
the character's recent history, how was this character affected by the war,
how does your character feel about the present political climate?
How does he/she feel about the more infamous events and people in the world
around him/her? Harry Potter and his victory over Voldemort? Dumbledore
and his murder by Severus Snape? Lucius Malfoy's pardon and book
publication? Snape's pardon and appointment back to his old job at
Hogwarts? The Registry? Werewolf Remus Lupin's job at Hogwarts?
Bellatrix' capture, insanity defence, followed by her "cure" and release from St. Mungo's? etc.
Luna Lovegood was an unparticular student in Ravenclaw before the war. She
was mostly known for her odd personality and attachment to the 'gossip'
paper of the Quibbler. Most people didn't know her except as "Loony"
Lovegood and the subject of regular ridicule and gossip. Luna never paid
them much attention. It didn't matter to her if they believed her.
Eventually she developed a bond with Harry Potter and his friends in her
fourth year, through the development of Dumbledore's Army and a remarkable
understanding of Harry's situation. She developed a bond with him and his
friends and considered them to be her first friends.
During the battle of the ministry, Luna did her best against incredible
odds. In the end, Sirius Black was killed by Bellatrix Lestrange. The war
was incredibly hard after that, loss after loss. That didn't stop the fight
though, that didn't stop her from fighting for the right to live as they
were born to live, free and happy. During her fifth year, Albus Dumbledore was murdered by Severus Snape. Luna didn't witness it herself, as she was helping the DA defend the school from rampant death eater attack, but it shocked and saddened her to lose such a figure in her life. It didn't really surprise her that Snape would be with the Death Eaters, it was a rather well known suspect that he had been before. Luna felt sorry for him, but in the end, tagged him with the enemy and someone to be leary of. After school, Luna debated going into the auror program, but realized that it was too restraining for her. She kept her affiliation with Harry and her friends and eventually joined the Order of the Phoenix.
During the war, Luna personally witnessed the death of Cho Chang and it was
a hard thing to deal with. Cho didn't always understand her, but she was a
housemate and they had had significant interaction. It had her withdrawing
some from the Order, though she did not withdraw completely. One of the last
straws for Luna was the 'insanity' punishment of Bellatrix Black-Lestrange.
She testified personally at the trial to Bellatrix's murdering of Sirius
Black, but it entirely fell on deaf ears. Everyone was not what they seemed to be and it was disconcerting to Luna. Murderers were deemed insane, enemies were friends, friends were enemies, it was all very confusing.
During Voldemort's last attacks of desperation during the war, Luna watched
her friends grieve their losses and try to recover their lives. She made her
father go into hiding for his own protection, though it was not an easy
parting for either father or daughter. During their time apart, Luna clung
to her friends for all support and fully rejoined the Order. She helped with
the education at the school, (working with Remus Lupin and Stella Sinistra) during the Order's open occupation of the school
in 2000 and did all she could to educate the students to defend themselves
as she herself had been educated by Harry years earlier. The final battle
was vicious and after the defeat of Voldemort, Luna withdrew to her life
with her father to recover.
After the war, many things happened that shocked and dismayed Luna. Lucius Malfoy was released and reprieved, despite her own witnesses to his attacks on the school and the Ministry of Magic in the name of Voldemort. She keeps a far distance from him, history having taught her to trust her gut and her gut goes all squiggley around Lucius Malfoy. In addition, Snape was pardoned for the murder of Albus Dumbledore. Supposedly he was on the side of the Order all along, but despite her belief in the best in people, she still worries that he might be a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Luna got into a well meaning relationship with everyone's favorite irishmen, Seamus Finnigan, but it didn't work out. Luna wasn't ready for the type of relationship, though she still misses Seamus as a friend. A few things have lifted Luna's spirit since the war, Remus Lupin's reappointment as professor at Hogwarts, the re-opening of the school, the re-working of the houses. It all created a balance and equality that Hogwarts seemed to have lacked before. Though a few things have darkened her spirits as well. Bellatrix Lestrange was deemed cured and released from her sentence for insanity. Not much makes Luna's blood boil, but that did. The woman murdered Sirius Black and countless others and was released to roam the world free, despite her registry status.
The registry is something that Luna is actively against. She believes that the government has no right to categorize people and restrict their lives. To her, it is no different then them imprisoning the innocent and pardoning the guilty. She thinks it is an assinine practice that should be quickly abolished from their society and works to find ways to get rid of it through the Quibbler and her father. The latest murder of Mandy Brocklehurt and Cormac McLaggen providing her with a good deal of ammunition for the media. Due to this obvious injustice of the Ministry, Luna and her father are actively calling for the dismissal of the Minister of Magic for crimes against the people he is supposed to serve.
What plots would you like to pursue with this character? What short and
long-term goals does the character have for his/her future? I would
love to see Luna come back out of her shell. She has withdrawn back into her
loony land, but knows that it is required to function in the world. I have
read over the Prophet articles in the game and I think Luna would actively
try to expose the flaws of the ministry and the Prophet through the Quibbler
and allow the Order to do so as well.
Once you start playing the game and get a feel for your fellow players
and characters, assuming the interaction is favourable, how long could you
anticipate staying with this character and this game? What is your usual
pattern of longevity in role-playing games? Most games that I have been
with, I have played in for five years or more. I don't like quitting games
and I have stuck with all of my games until they have closed.
What is your usual pattern of availabilty and play-time for a character
and game which you enjoy? Most of my availability is during the early
afternoon in Pacific time, or very late at night.
Now that we've got a sense of your characterization, this is where you get
to really showcase your writing style! Give us everything you've got!
Remember--this
sample must be a 'fresh' sample relevant to our game and the current
setting.
Sample Journal Entry:
I am saddened that this is happening again. It reminds me of the last time.
They aren't telling the truth, they don't want to believe that the truth is
out there. That it is happening again. More people dying….. Dark marks…
attacks…. Deaths… they don't ever learn.
They are blinder then Pustule Milk toads. Father is extremely upset.
Cormac…. Mandy… they are not over. They are not going to stop. They don't
stop until it is on their plates. There is just too much right now.
Perhaps the thestrals need tending…. A flight would be nice soon. Perhaps a
flight. It will be morning moon soon. It will be a nice flight time. I
should get them some steak; I have not given them any steak in a while. They
like steak. I'll see the butcher….
It will be a nice flight… a nice flight and then the plate…
Sample Third Person Writing:
Luna slipped a piece of steak to the youngest of the thestrals. She had
nicknamed him "Sugarlips". He liked sweet meats. Ham, turkey, things that
were high in fat. It was all something for a distraction, something to
forget the deaths that were on the ministry's hands. Only two more in the
last weeks. Two more out of hundreds that could have been prevented. One
they had conducted on their own. It was just like before, imprisoning the
innocent so they didn't have to do the work to find the truth.
She stood out in the clearing in her mismatched socks, having slipped out of
her shoes to feel the dirt soft beneath her feet, cool. The air was thick
with the smell of blood. The herd had been fed a short time before. Probably
a side of pork or beef. It explained why the youngest was hungry and the
others were being lazy. They were odd creatures but Luna related to them,
they were eccentric and odd and only people that could really see them
understood them.
She stroked the thestral's neck softly as it devoured the cut of ham. "We
should make sure that we keep them up to date, shouldn't we?" she asked the
creature quietly, knowing that it wouldn't answer, but in its own way it
did, just letting her speak without disagreement.
"We should give them the truth that they do not wish to find. We should help
Harry and those that they are ignoring again… but it is hard to make them
see…. It takes work and…." she trailed, looking skyward for a long moment,
watching a cloud that slid by on a lazy smear across the blue.
It was like a smear of white on a blue canvas. Her hand dropped away from
the thestral's neck and she wandered away from the herd. She wandered out of
the forest to Dumbledore's grave, just looking at the white stone for a long
moment, thinking of all the things that ran through her head, the ways she
could help or hurt. It was her job to do something, it was her
responsibility to do something and she would.
