Part Two- Character Info
Character Name: Neville Longbottom
Age: 21
Birthday: July 30, 1980
Wand: Cherry, unicorn hair
House in School: Gryffindor
Bloodline: (Pureblood,Half-blood, Muggle born) Pureblood
Political View: Previously a member of the D.A.

Appearance
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 190
Build: Gangly to average muscularity. He has lost the extra
weight he had in school over the last few years.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Light Brown, a little mussed consistently.
Dress style: Neville dresses in what could best be described as
dork casual. He wears what should have been neat clean robes, but the
ensemble tends to end up looking a bit frayed and slightly like an
unmade bed, even despite his best efforts and the occasional nagging of his grandmother.

Discerning Marks: (include basic appearance, discerning marks,
style, etc.) In general, Neville is fairly unassuming.

PB:(Played By--this is the actor, actress or model you will be
using for your character icon in the game.)
Mathew Perry, from early in his "Friends" career.
Sexuality: (include details about sexual orientation, history,
and give valid reasons for your character being
gay/bisexual/straight/transgendered)
Neville tends to be asexual. He's much more obsessed with his plants
than girl-watching. Should the right girl come along, he would end up
bumbling his way through it. He's not terribly outgoing, and since plants can't really introduce you to girls, he doesn't meet many.

Psychology
Introvert/Extrovert Introvert. He's an introvert by nature, but
his social awkwardness comes more from is feelings of inadequacy and
lack of confidence than any true lack of skill. He prefers the
company of his plants to most people because he understands them, and
knows what to expect. He is not completely socially inept. He does
have more confidence now, having worked in St. Mungo's as an herbalist
has granted him more self-esteem than he had in school. Even earning
the Order of Merlin hasn't changed him the way his time at St. Mungo's
has.

Boggart is? Explain. PLEASE NOTE: A Boggart assumes the shape of
a *creature* or physical object. This is not the same as a Dementor
Effect - it cannot be something vague like 'loneliness' or 'sadness'
or 'darkness'. It must have shape and form.
Neville's boggart is still Severus Snape. No matter how far he has
come, Snape is still the embodiment of his inadequacy. He still
represents everything that Neville fears, authority and expertise
looking down on him with disgust.

Patronus--can they produce one? What is it and why does it
have that form? Again, please note, as per canon - a Patronus is a
*creature* of some kind. We have been very flexibe as to allow
fictional creatures to be Patronuses, but it cannot be an inanimate
object. A Beater's Bat cannot be a Patronus.
Neville's patronus has taken on the appearance of a very large
bumblebee. He has only been able to cast a corporeal patronus since
the capture of Bellatrix, yet, he's not lost the ability once gained.
The bumblebee to him represents how something that seems small has
large effects, and how nothing is truly insignificant. That the
bumblebee is intricately tied to plants and their propagation also
affects the shape of his patronus.

Personality
Include strengths, weaknesses, quirks, general outlook on life.
Neville is somewhat shy and meek. He's lived his entire life in the
shadow of his grandmother, a most formidable woman, and those of his
parents who lost their sanity in the first war. Far from being an
environment to encourage excellence, he felt stifled and overwhelmed,
a feeling he continues to have when he gets into unfamiliar
situations.

His bravery and placement in Gryffindor house still shines through,
though more in determination and his willingness to continue to face
his fears than any overt wartime bravery.

He's dedicated to his research and his herbology, happily spending
most of his time at St. Mungo's or his greenhouse and can often be
found talking to his plants as if they were truly sentient and able to
understand him.

Family
Parents? Frank and Alice Longbottom who died in St. Mungo's after Bellatrix LeStrange was there. Neville has been
raised by his grandmother, Augusta Longbottom.
Siblings? none
Family dynamics--do they get along? Opposite sides of the war?
Accept their child's magical talent? Pressure for 'pure blood'
marriage?
While Neville loves his gran dearly, he has recognized the need to
move out on his own. Being raised by such a formidable woman has
never given him the self-confidence he desperately craves. However,
he still visits her regularly for tea and dinner.
He visited his parents often before their untimely deaths. His collection of
candy wrappers from his mother is stashed in a trunk in his flat.

Lifestyle
Occupation: Herbologist, currently under the employ of St.
Mungo's while moonlighting a business arrangement of hybrid breeding
with Severus Snape regarding Mimbulous Mimbletonia.
Residence: He has a small flat not far from St. Mungo's. He's
lived there for the past few months, working on establishing himself
as a proper bachelor.

Financial Status:
Neville lives modestly. His income from St. Mungo's supports him well
enough, though he has never been one to want for luxury, he has wanted
to prove himself and not simply live off his parents' and his
grandmother's money. The stipend Snape is paying him has allowed him
to secure a small greenhouse where he can work on his hybridization.
These extra funds have supported his research, allowing him to finally
make the move out of his grandmother's house he knew he needed to
make.

History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time:
include any affiliations since Hogwarts, jobs, family life,
significant events in the character's recent history, how was this
character affected by the war, how does your character feel about the
present political climate?
Neville was raised among his pureblood relatives without the
prejudices that tended to run throughout that area of society. They
believed him a Squib for quite some time, though he did finally show
proper magical signs and was granted entrance to Hogwarts.

Neville's Hogwart years were filled with chaos, being close enough to
Harry Potter to get caught in the action regularly. Being collateral
damage did nothing for him until his fifth year when he joined the
D.A. Defending himself and anyone else against Bellatrix LeStrange
became a driving force, and his determination paid off. He began to
progress much faster in his spellwork, though herbology would always
remain his one true love.

During the war, Neville continued to fight, though the events were
fast and furious, leaving his memories in a blur. What he remembers
cleanly, however, is the look on Bellatrix's face when she was
captured directly due to his actions. The feeling of elation at
having proven himself his parents' son has never left him and is what
has allowed him to finally produce a corporeal patronus.

After the war, he devoted himself to his herbology work at St. Mungo's
and began work on hybridizing Mimbulous Mimbletonia attempting
to come up with a healing salve as prolific as the sap the plant
tended to produce. This activity drew the attention of Severus Snape,
who is now funding the research to the complete astonishment of
Neville. These attempts have been more and less successful, though he
believes he may finally have figured out a possible answer, if he can
get it to work.

He was awarded the Order of Merlin for the defeat and capture of
Bellatrix. This honor stunned him, though not as much as having been
named one of Witch Weekly's Top 10 Eligible Bachelors later that same
year. He participated in the auction reluctantly.

It was after this that he moved out of his grandmother's house, having
realized that he really needed to attempt to become an adult in truth.
In recent months, Neville has kept a relatively low profile. Though
with the arrival and passage of his 21st birthday, which he spent
alone, he realized he missed his friends terribly and is looking into
reconnecting.

In regards to recent events:
How does he/she feel about the more infamous events and people in the
world around him/her? Harry Potter and his victory over Voldemort?
Dumbledore and his murder by Severus Snape? Lucius Malfoy's pardon
and book publication? Snape's pardon and appointment back to his old
job at Hogwarts? The Registry? Werewolf Remus Lupin's job at
Hogwarts? Bellatrix' capture, insanity defence, followed by her
"cure" and release from St. Mungo's? etc.

Neville was obviously overjoyed at the defeat of Vodemort, and has
been a loyal friend of Harry's both before and since.

Neville's opinions of Snape have never become positive. He was
shocked at the murder of Dumbledore, though perhaps he shouldn't have
been. He'd never liked the man, but he hadn't thought him a murderer.
The pardon bothered him. He didn't believe the events leading up to
it, and the collar provided Neville with no comfort.

While he understands the theory behind the Registry, he disapproves
heartily. He thinks it should be based on a person's merit themselves
as to how one is classified, and while he finds comfort in the fact
that Bellatrix, Lucius and Snape cannot produce magic without being
tracked constantly, he is disgusted at the entire ordeal.

Neville's view of Lucius' new status and book publication is that of
exasperation at the effects of Malfoy money.

He thinks Remus deserves his job at Hogwarts and wholly supports it.
He feels it is one of the few things that has gone completely right
since the war.

Bellatrix's release nearly destroyed everything Neville had come to
believe in. He is furious and felt lost for a long time. He thinks
it a complete farce and failing of the Ministry.

What plots would you like to pursue with this character? What
short and long-term goals does the character have for his/her
future?
He knows he needs to work on his confidence, as well as reconnect with
friend. He'd likely reconnect with the trio, Ginny and Luna first.
Certainly, he would still be wary of opening up too much, but they
were comfortable and had always welcomed him.

He's going to continue his work with the hybridization, which is going
to continue to force him to interact with Snape, something that I
think will cause him to really re-evaluate himself.

Long-term goals would include him attempting to grow beyond his
irrational fear of Snape. His success on that matter is completely up
in the air, however, and would depend a great deal on what he learned
about Snape.

He also had his world shaken with Bellatrix LeStrange's release from
St. Mungo's as "cured." This has dealt him a terrible blow and is
part of why he retreated. However, the Gryffindor courage will not be
kept quiet forever and is making him want to fight back. He refuses
to show her that she beat him or his family.

If the Order is recruiting still, Neville would constantly look out
for an invitation.

Once you start playing the game and get a feel for your fellow
players and characters, assuming the interaction is favourable, how
long could you anticipate staying with this character and this game?
What is your usual pattern of longevity in role-playing games?
Once I find a game and a character I enjoy, I tend to remain in the
game until it closes.

What is your usual pattern of availabilty and play-time for a
character and game which you enjoy?
I'm a stay at home mom, so I'm really fairly open.

Now that we've got a sense of your characterization, this is where you
get to really showcase your writing style! Give us everything you've
got! Remember--this sample must be a 'fresh' sample relevant to our
game and the current setting.

Sample Journal Entry:
[private to self]
Today was my 21st birthday. I suppose maybe I should have gone and done something, but with who? I did walk down to the corner market and bought some soda and my favourite kind of meat pie and a pumpkin pastie for myself. Then I went to Diagon Alley, to that little plant store that I enjoy so much. The owner has gotten to know me, and so when I walked in, he brought out a new form of Abyssinian Shrivelfig that's a completely undiscovered strain! Apparently his son found it while touring the Korean peninsula and brought some back. I accidentally let it slip that it was my birthday and they gave me a cutting of it as a birthday gift. I was so excited to get it home and start studying that I'd forgotten the other chores I needed to do in Diagon Alley, and so tomorrow I have to go back and get some new quills, some ink, bandages and some potting soil. Time for bed, I suppose. I have an early morning tomorrow in the greenhouse. I'm studying the blooming habits of the Fanged Geranium and I suspect that if I'm there at dawn, I'll finally catch it in bloom so I can record it for "The Herbology Journal" and perhaps be published again.

Sample Third Person Writing:
Neville sat alone in his greenhouse just before dawn, a notebook and quill resting on his lap. He was sitting before the Fanged Geranium, waiting for dawn to come so he could prove his theory about when it bloomed. No one had been able to discover when the plant bloomed thus far, and he was determined to figure it out. The flowers of this plant were rumored to cure various ailments, though none had been able to harvest them since the knowledge of when it bloomed had been long lost among various wizarding families who'd chosen to keep it a secret. He'd spent months nurturing this particular plant, creating the perfect environmental conditions for blooms to form, and when one finally had he'd been elated.
He was tired, his eyes were beginning to droop just a bit, so he decided to rest a bit, his chin in his hand and elbow on the nearby table. He yawned, and before he knew it his eyes drifted closed. Images of the plants in his greenhouse were shortly replaced by the faces of his school friends drifting by him happily, his school days unfolding in his dreams... when suddenly, BAM! He awoke with a start, realizing that his elbow slipped and he was now laying face first on the table. He groaned softly, lifting his head and rubbing the forming bump on his forehead. "Owww" he groaned, checking for blood. When he found there was none, he sighed. "This is your fault, you know" he said offhandedly to the Fanged Geranium before him. "If you'd bloom, I could go back to bed." he said almost encouragingly to the plant. "I've heard your blooms are quite lovely, and I'd like to see them." he said, yawning broadly and leaning back against the table. Suddenly, the plant began to move and twitch a bit. Neville sat up excitedly, the quill and parchment notebook falling clumsily from his lap. He scrambled to pick them up, then made a quick note of the exact time it began to quiver. And suddenly, a lovely red flower unfurled before him. He stood up and if he hadn't been completely alone, he would have begun cheering with delight. He fumbled for the camera, taking a few photos of the process and making notes in between. He stepped forward to study the flower more carefully, searching for the much sought after pollen, and as he reached out for it, he became painfully aware of why it was called a "Fanged Geranium". The plant, with lightning quick speed, snapped at him and caught his hand, scraping it up badly as Neville pulled away. "Ouch!" he cried as he jumped away. "You could have warned me." he snapped at the plant, almost as if it were a person. He sighed, looking at his hand. Knowing the plant was not poisonous, he simply reached for the small medical kit he kept for just such an occasion, opened it, and remembered with a wince exactly why bandages had been on his neglected shopping list for the day before.
