An update about the meme rules and moving to Dreamwidth

Jan 04, 2012 23:40

This covers a number of issues that have recently come up and required us to review and change how we currently run the community. Please make sure you read the updated rules before posting new prompts as these now apply. More information on each topic can be found under the cuts:

Bashing
It has to come to our attention that there has been an increase in negative and critical comments appearing in prompts, with prompters making inflammatory statements or openly bashing tropes, character portrayals and interpretation of the canon. We would like to make our position very clear on this-- a prompt post is not the appropriate place for meta-critical comments. We have amended our rules to reflect that by including a rule against bashing.

Please remember that we ask meme users to be civil and respectful of others’ points of view when posting and that our main aim is to keep this as a comfortable and safe community for all members, regardless of ship-preference or interpretation of the source material. Please read our updated rules before posting to ensure you are clear on what this means. As with our other rule updates, we won't be applying this to previous rounds, so any prompt or fill from before this posting (mid way through round 19) will be unaffected.

If you encounter bashing of any type, we ask that you not to engage the people concerned. Instead, let us know so we can take appropriate action.

Dreamwidth
We have been discussing a possible move to Dreamwidth following the changes made to the comment page design after release 88. We've spent some time investigating DW as an option, not least because it offers certain features that LiveJournal currently doesn't including subject lines in comments; a design close to pre release 88 Live Journal's; threads which don’t collapse to zero pixels at certain points in the comment count and low to minimal advertising in free accounts. However, we have decided to stay on LJ for the time being as we wait and see what other communities will make the change and most importantly, what kink memes will be moving. And we are well aware that the majority of our members are here. Creating a mirror/archive community may be possible at a later date, but cross posting is only possible from Dreamwidth to LiveJournal right now, so we would have to update entries manually, something that would present problems of its own.

Reprompting old prompts

Starting in Round 20, the meme will be open to reposting old prompts. There are certain guidelines that must be followed, so take a look at our updated rules post for more information.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to let us know.
