Organizing Recipes

Nov 11, 2005 14:06

I'm actually writing out recipes on cards and putting them in a box for the first time. I got tired of having little pieces of paper all over the kitchen, and Chris provided me with a box and some cards.

Now I have to decide how to organize them. What sections would you make in a vegetarian recipe box?

i keep my recipes on the computer (for now.)

could you organize by culture (indian cuisine, japanese...?) or how about autobiographical ("i need to look for this under 1996 because that's when so-and-so came over for dinner and i burned it.")
or alphabetical by major ingredient. or salads/entrees/desserts. or

this is why i keep them on disk - searchable. i'm too forgetty.

That's where they are now, but then I scrawl things on pieces of paper and bring them out to the kitchen half the time.

I love the autobiographical idea. Hah. Only I'd never find anything. :D

I was toying with the culture idea, but then what do you do with unknown stuff?

Someone recently compared me to Jon Cusak for having my records arranged autobiographically, so unless you want to be labeled as "one of THOSE," stick to my handy dancy recipe arrangement solution:

Really, I don't write down recipes, which is why nothing ever turns out the same way twice, but hey, that's life. Wait, no, that's EXCITEMENT!

i should have bolded the main categories. you might not even want to use the sub categories, you could just go with basic stuff. or you could get really anal (like me) and go all out like under breakfast you could have "waffles" "crepes" "pancakes" but then you can only do that if you have more than a few recipes.

i dunno :) hahaha!

What recipes should be in the Cheryl's Birthday section? ;)

Those look like good categories. I think I might be a little obsessive about sections too. I figure eventually it'll get full, even if it isn't now!

Thanks :)

I'd probably do it by food type...

Like

Lentils, Tofu, ..etc.
