Recs: Vids, multiple fandoms {For 14 Valentines}

Most of these recs are from the Stargate universe, with a few other fandoms (or vids with multiple fandoms) represented as well. I tend to enjoy vids that are either funny or heartbreaking, so I'll try to let you know which is which. :)

I watched Us la few days ago for the first time and absolutely, totally and completely adored it.

I'm living in a Halls of Residence at Uni, and everytime one of my friends came by - whether they love fandom like I do, observe it bemusedly from a safe distance or are scornful and derogatory about it - I MADE them watch it.

I think this whole 'out and proud fangirl' thing is growing on me :D

Also, I absolutely agree with your rec for lim's This Is How It Works. I cried, buckets and buckets, then had to try and explain the whole messy affair to my friend, who happened upon me in my fragile state quite by accident, and was in no way prepared for my sobbing exclamations of 'but, but he... JOHN, and a-and RODNEY, and with the students - his kids! and - Jesus, the FLOWERS *heaving cry*.'

I think that's *marvelous* that you're an out and proud fangirl! I can't be out as fannish for a lot of reasons, so it makes me really happy to know that some people are out and spreading the word. :) (Not that that sounds cultish at all!) And it's also great that even if people are freaked by the idea, at least they're hearing about fandom and have the potential to get used to the idea over time.

And yeah, 'This is how it works' really pulls at the heartstrings. I first saw it several months after reading the fic, and it still made me tear up. I've seen it enough now (and haven't read the fic again) that I've built up a bit of immunity, but...yeah.

My hope is that, after eleven or so months of constant, uncensored exposure to my fangirlish self, people will either cave to my shameless propaganda campaign and give it a chance or get over themselves, and just let us be (I have friends who like to being up my involvement with fandom just so they can be derogatory about it sometimes). Poor lovelies. I think the whole concept scares them; I'm the crazy liberal to their traditional conservatism so they oppose everything I'm enthusiastic about pretty much on principle :D

I think that is a *brilliant* strategy - go you go!

And believe me, I completely understand about people bringing up fandom to be mocking - I was a huge Star Trek fan as a teenager, and while most of my friends thought it was just kind of amusing, a few liked to...push my buttons about it. Heh. Now I hope they've secretly gotten involved in fandom and are ruing the days they mocked me. ::evil laugh:: Hm, it may be time for me to step away from the computer for a bit. :)
