She does not cry in the doctor’s office, and she does not cry on the ride home. Instead she feels frozen, her insides are cold and empty, and she’s angry. She’s so fucking angry that her hands curl into fists.

Yes. This is how Karen reacts to trauma - going cold and angry and frustrated and a little bit hollow.
