Hitchhiking from Pisa/Florence to San Francisco

OK, so not hitchhiking, but, if one's in Pisa (Italy), what's the best (cheapest/fastest) way to get back to the Bay Area ( Read more... )

I flew from Milan to SFO on AlItalia - took about 12 hours direct.

when i went over i looked at hell of variety of options; it seemed (at the time, at least), that it was actually about the same price to:

fly from FLR (florence) to LHO (heathrow) & from LHO to SFO

as to try to take:

a: train to milan then fly to small london airport then bus to LHO to SFO

b: any other combination of the above

AND it takes about two days if you do it those other ways. mind you, the way that i did it it took 24 hours and 3 flight-changes each way, so i don't recommend it if you have lots of baggage.

BUT it is cheap. then again i was negotiating spring break prices.

if none of that makes sense, i apologize!
