Well there have been two remakes on TV recently that got my attention and both have disappointed
I think the problem is that both series have decided not to come out of the shadow of the originals rather then try and update them for their own reason.
Minder suffers because it does not know if it wants to be pure comedy or drama and it almost has too many ideas. The characters also cannot decide if they are the original or a modern version. To be honest it might well have worked better if Daley was a cross between Dragons Den and Alan Sugar (or possibly a bit fo a player in the city) it really would have put it into the current era. It seems to eb stuck actually I am not quite where it is stuck. To be honest the characters also d not work well together and to be honest as Battle star Gallatica got a slightly sharper darker edge.
Law and Order on the other hand makes me laugh. I think it is when the play music signature thing while showing a caption saying "Euston Underpass", I just cannot take it seriously. The other problem is that the episodes are too close to the US version , the problem is to a large extent it is a drama set around processes and while to a certain extent detecting is detecting, the legal process is just different, the scenes where they are not plea bargaining honest are painful and Freema Agya is painful (and thats a lot of pain ina plea bargaining scene). ?It has potential I suspect if ti gets to a second series it will mature and the scripts will move away a little form the US series.
