This monstrosity was stolen from a doctor.
Introduction Questions
Give a two or three word description of them.
Dramatically ironic antivillain
Do they have any nicknames, street names, titles, nom de plume?
None in his world. Oddly, in the DR, his nickname is actually being used by friends. Aside from that, Bakurae seem intent on dragging up ‘yadonushi’.
What is their full birth name?
Bakura Ryou
Where do they live?
An apartment in Domino City. In the Dressing Room, he lives down the corridor from the café.
Why do they live there?
He lives in the apartment because it is small, inexpensive and is near school. He lives near the café because his name happened to be on the door of a room already.
What is their citizenship status?
Japanese citizen.
What is their most obvious blessing or strength?
Well, the giant ka with the sharp claws probably counts as a strength, but his ownership of the Ring is probably putting itself to a more practical purpose.
What do they perceive as their greatest strength?
He would take the question to mean physical strength, and cite the Ring.
What is their most obvious flaw or weakness?
He’s very gullible - he’ll hear what he wants to - and easily baited. But his most obvious flaw is probably his need for leadership. Left to his own devices, he’s not very good at doing anything.
What do they perceive as their greatest weakness?
His inability to use the Millennium Ring. It could have helped a lot of people if he knew how. For one thing, he would be able to initiate shadow games himself, taking Marik out of the equation.
Physical Traits
How old are they?
Sixteen
What is their gender?
Male
What is their species/race?
Human
How tall are they?
5 foot 9
How much do they weigh?
Something that gives him a BMI of around 18. He’s kind of a stick, though he does weigh more than in canon, due to Marik feeding him up.
What is their general body type, frame, bone structure, and poise?
He is not as waiflike as fanart would have him be - he may be thin, but he’s built as he is shown in the manga, with fairly broad shoulders. He’s quite tall, too: around the same height as Honda and Jou. Poise? Heh, no.
What is their skin colour?
Very pale.
What is their hair colour?
Almost the same as his skin, if slightly lighter.
What is their hair style?
Fluffy. And… he uses hair gel. Look, there is no other way to get those batwings right.
Does it change?
If he ever runs out of hair gel, his hair will (scare chord) lie FLAT.
Do they have any facial hair?
Nah.
What is their eye colour?
Light blue ignoretheicons.
How attractive are they?
Kind of cute, in an adorkable way. He’d be far more attractive if he wasn’t incredibly self conscious: he’ll never wear anything that makes him stand out, and all his clothes are baggy and shapeless or worn layered.
What is their most distinguishing feature?
Probably the stark white hair or the obvious Ring (it’s worn on a chain).
Do they have any scars, tattoos, or birthmarks? If so, how did they acquire them?
Just the scars on his hand and arm (the latter still has visible scab tissue, though it’s generally hidden) and also five bumps on his chest . Thanks for nothing, Bakura.
What is their handedness (left/right/ambidextrous)?
Right.
What is their hand size/description?
Nothing very distinctive.
Do they resemble some currently known person?
The Ring Spirit, and every double ever. Yay. He actually wears the long black coat, and Marik has previously urged him to accessorize, resulting in some oddly familiar rings and bangles that he hasn’t yet begun to wear.
Do they wear a uniform?
He arrived in the DR in his school uniform…
What kind of clothing do they wear?
…but has since dumped it in favour of wearing t-shirts, button downs and jumpers over blue jeans. He generally wears blues, greys and blacks. Nothing that stands out. When it gets colder, he wears the black coat.
What is their clothing's style or level of sophistication?
Sophistication? …No.
What size are they for various pieces of clothing?
(I’m so bad at working this out. I’m not going to try.) He never has any troubles finding clothes that fit, and that’s all that’s really relevant.
Do they wear makeup?
Nope. Not even that one time when Otogi tried to get him to try eyeliner.
Do they wear glasses/contacts?
Neither - he’s 20/20.
What sort of vocal tone do they have?
A nice baritone that tends to get raised in anger or terror when exposed to other DR residents. Though, he is terrible at singing. Completely tone deaf, sings from his throat, cannot count time etc.
Do they get sick?
He doesn’t have a good constitution, possibly due to the fact that without Marik’s influence, he doesn’t eat very much. So yes, he is very susceptible to the common cold. If it’s going around, he has it.
Family
Who were their parents?
His mother died with Amane in a car crash, whilst his father is currently away in Egypt.
Were they raised by them?
By his father from around the age of ten. Before then, by both.
If not, then why didn't they and who did raise them?
Because of the car crash; his father.
What is their father's full name?
Do I actually have to come up with this.
What is their mother's full name?
I am not coming up with this.
What is their mother's maiden name?
If I try and research meaningful names, I will invariably get something wrong.
What did their parents and/or foster parents do for a living?
Father: owns a museum and still works as an archaeologist. He met Brooklime’s mother at work. She was a prehistorian. This had the added effect of giving Brooklime a lot of exposure to the magic and beliefs of different cultures - both ancient and prehistoric. He was doomed to grow up nerdy.
What was their standing in the community?
Reasonable? Seriously, just ordinary folks.
Did their family stay in one area or move around a lot?
Well, both parents working on digs entailed a lot of moving, so Amane and Brooklime often had to stay at friends’ houses when they were children, or else end up uprooted for weeks at a time.
How did they get along with their parents?
Pretty well, meaning that Brooklime’s largely failed attempt to keep in touch with his father regularly is not making him a happy bunny.
How would their parents describe them?
His father would probably explain that he’s a nice kid - not an overachiever, but always kind and attentive - who comes off as quiet and withdrawn to most people. Then again, parents are rarely overtly critical.
Do they have any siblings?
Amane, who has been dead for six years.
If so how many and what were their names?
Just the one. Though, in the DR, he’s ended up with another.
What was their birth position in the family?
Oldest child.
How did they get along with each of their siblings?
He loved Amane, but when she died, he was ten: very few children are nice to their siblings at that age, even generally polite ones. So, there’s a bit of guilt over that.
What was their family life like?
…pretty much answered above. There was no resentment over the moving around; it didn’t affect either child too much, as they generally had at least one parent to look after them.
List all current knowledge of family locations, spouses, children, birth dates, schooling and any important incidents that they and only they might remember.
Woah. Okay.
Father’s location: out of the country - in Egypt.
Brooklime’s Birth date: 2.9.80 (assuming the current year is 1996)
Schooling: currently attends Domino High
Important incidents: death of mother and sister (his father wasn’t there); all those friends going comatose; meeting Marik and killing Bakura.
Are any or all of their family still alive?
Just his father. If he has extended family, then they are very distant - the kind of relations who are mentioned a few times a year, usually with reference to past events, and are never visited.
Do they love or hate one member of the family in particular?
Not in particular.
Is any member of the family special to them in any way (perhaps, as a confidant, mentor, or arch-rival)?
N/A
Are there any black (or white) sheep in the family (including them)?
Yeah. The one who had to swap schools due to trapping his friends in figurines and then ended up murdering someone. But seriously, no one stepped forward to look after him after the gaming incidents, and if anything, it made his father more distant - Brooklime’s lived on his own for quite a while.
Do they have a notorious or celebrated ancestor?
Nope.
What do people assume about them once their ancestry is revealed?
Very little.
Have they begun their own family?
No.
If not, do they ever want to have a family of their own someday?
He’s not big on thinking about the future. If pushed to consider it: he doesn’t see himself as responsible enough to look after children, or even deserving of the happiness that would come with a relationship. Also, he’s driven away all his friends. This entire line of questioning, if put to him, would end up with a lot of ‘forever alooooooone’ angsting.
What type of person would be their ideal mate?
Someone who would make him feel safe, but wouldn’t be afraid to challenge some of the more idiotic and/or Marik-instilled views he holds. They would have to be willing to deal with a lot of trauma, and possibly to be yelled at for even daring to challenge some of the principles behind said trauma. Also, it would be useful if they had some knowledge of shadow magic already: Brooklime’s not about to explain it to anyone who doesn’t already know.
