Olympic Fever

The first week with the new puppy and first week of Paris 2024 Olympic event coverage? Let's go.

We've had an extremely busy week of people visiting to see the puppy (and also us,) and surprisingly, the Olympics factored into it pretty heavily. Donna came over to meet Maple on Sunday. Then Sammi and Liam and Caroline came for Taco Tuesday and met Maple. On Thursday, while I was at Magic, Donnie came to meet the puppy. Then on Friday Peyt stayed overnight and met the puppy. And Saturday afternoon Dori picked him up and met the puppy. Sammi and kids watched men's Mountain bike racing with us. Peyt watched women's rugby, BMX racing. And in between it all, Dana and I watched basketball, gymnastics, table tennis, handball, skateboarding, paired synchronized swimming, and the so many clips. Next week will have the event I like the most - speed/endurance climbing. We found climbing four years ago at the Tokyo games, and watched it with lil' Caroline, and slightly lil' Liam. It was during Caroline's 4-year-old climbing phase, where she would climb up on stairs and stools, and bookshelves. So her interest was piqued. Sammi and Wes don't have cable or Peacock, so they are missing the Olympics altogether this year, but it was nice to see the kids choose to sit ant watch it with us on Tuesday. Likewise, it was a pleasant surprise that when Peyt stayed over he wanted to watch rugby with us - through the semifinals and finals. And that he watched the BMX racing and picked who he thought would win each heat.

Unlike previous sleepovers, Peyt didn't sit like a lump and play video games the whole time. Our every conversation wasn't about his hyper-fixation on Fortnite. TBH, he's kinda over Fortnite. Instead, there was variety of activities and conversations. He brought over four Neca horror movie figures to play with, and was a little focused on a specific toy store he wants to go to to buy more. And he was obsessed with playing Friday the 13th The Game on my PS5. It's a game that's lost its licensing rights and had to close down its store and soon will close down its online servers. So he was strictly playing the offline bot mood where you're Jason stalking camp counselors. But otherwise, we talked about a lot of stuff and did other things. We all got up early and went out for breakfast. We drove a round a bit exploring the roads around our house. We stopped by Dana's parents' for a quick visit. We talked about the impending new school year. It was a great sleepover. Certainly a high-point of the week for me.
