I'm curious about nanowrimo. Do you have to submit your words to update the total or is it done through an honor system? If the story is public that would limit my plans to participate.
Nope! You only submit your novel through an automated word count program so that they can see you've reached 50k, so it is an honor system because they don't read your story. Your novel does not become public at all, unless you post it somewhere on your own. Also, they give you the option of scrambling the words if you want to feel even safer. You can read the faq here. You can write fanfic or original fic! It's really fun!
That is fantastic news! I really need to make more progress in my writing than I have lately and this could be the push I've been needing. I'll probably use the rest of the week to outline and plot out so I can just write in November. I'm excited now! :D
ADDED! Yes, 50k in one month and lots of people doing it are great motivations. There are forums and it's organized so that you can go into your region's forum and find people around your area doing it, hosting write-ins and meet ups and stuff.
I'm still outlining myself, but I'm getting super excited.
One that's been stewing in my head for the past year. >.> I actually had written some of it out, but I deleted it all when I realized the premise made no sense. Now I've reworked it completely (it's totally different now, more realistic, hopefully). It's vampire-themed, which I guess is getting old, but I still stand by the fact that I was obsessed with vampires long before they were popular. >.>
Anyway, it's sort of a different idea of vampires, though - I'm establishing the idea that the original vampires were a species that could breed and did not need to drink blood, and that the vampires they ended up making were the ones that required blood to live. One of these "second generation" vampires wants to establish a coup d'etat to overthrow the Council of original vampires and he's doing so by using the half-vampire daughter of one of them. Hopefully it ends up reading more realistically than it sounds, lol.
Your idea sounds intriguing. Hopefully, you'll post some of it as you go along or after you finish. I'd love to read it.
Mine is sort of a fantasy story. I haven't gotten a clear idea yet, but I want to write about a world where there are summoners and companions. Basically, they're a fated pair - they're born at the same time, and there is only one companion for any summoner. Companions are humans who can shape shift into animals and execute the summoner's spells. They can't shape-shift without their summoner and a summoner can't do spells without them, so they need each other. So, everything will sorta build upon that. XD God, reading it over, it sounds so boring lol.
