Just a note

Making a PSA to your friends list bashing other fans in a fandom that are in your friends list is a no-no with me. I will remove you immediately. Fandom is not so srs bsns to me that I will condone fan bashing. Bashing fictional characters? Go right ahead. They're fictional. But bashing other fans is so incredibly tacky, especially when you're ( Read more... )

But bashing other fans is so incredibly tacky, especially when you're being a hyprocite and saying "they make me look bad." You're making yourself look bad.

THIS!

The person who did the bashing this time isn't on my flist, but I followed a link to the post. I'm glad I don't know him/her. S/he seems like a really unpleasant person, partially for the original post, but mostly for the replies to comments left from people who don't agree with him/her.

I have a lot of respect for you for speaking up on the post and voicing your disagreement. You did so civilly but with conviction.

What really saddened me were the people who replied with support for the bashing and even joined in. Some were on my flist. It was a slap in the face to know what they really think of me.

Yeah, well...What I don't understand is why they have you on their friends list in the first place. They're just bringing unnecessary anger and drama to themselves. I never understand when people participate in a fandom and can't deal with others disagree with them. They don't have the same opinion as me? QUELLE SURPRISE!

You know what's sad? She didn't used to be. And one of the people who commented didn't used to be, either. It depresses me.

I just want to say you're nuts if you think that frog and Rapunzel are ever going to get together. And don't call me speciest.

HDU. Look at the way he's perched on her shoulder. SEE HOW HAPPY THEY ARE TOGETHER? RAPUNZEL/FLYNN fans are nuts! NUTS! And they're making all of us Rapunzel fans look bad.

I don't have a dog in this particular fight, but I completely agree with this. There's no excuse for attacking other fans personally like that.

The killer is when they actually have people on their flist who are basically in your crosshairs.

I'm glad you agree. I was beginning to feel like I was too sensitive; this is the internet and all that. But you know what? People on my flist are generally so great. They never, ever bash other fans. When I used to watch Glee, people would bash Rachel all the time and I was perfectly fine with that. They never bashed Rachel fans and I never bashed them for their opinions. I thought that was just being decent, you know?

I don't think you're too sensitive, or that you're the only one who thinks that fan-on-fan bashing is out of bounds behavior. It's rule one on a lot of forums. We all feel really strongly about our opinions and we become very invested in our little fan obsessions, but whatever you feel about a character, that doesn't mean I have the right to attack YOU. And I would argue, I especially don't have the right to throw around words like crazy and delusional and psycho, as though these words don't mean things and hurt people.

I've been in the crosshairs before, and it's not fun. If you despise my presence so much, why do you keep me on your flist?
