He isn't, really. I mean, Nikita makes him look incompetent 100% of the time lol. But the two shows are different - Nikita is a rogue agent in this one, and she wants to take down Division (what the organization is called on this show.) Michael is actually seen as a sympathetic character who wants to protect his recruits rather than cruel.

P.S. It's not a remake. It's based on it, but the storyline is completely different.
