First of all, I send all my metta to Norway. Innocent people should never have to suffer from the insanity of a terrorist. I am disturbed by the event and by the media (read: Western media / read also: American media) trying to pin the blame on Muslims, either by falsely accusing Muslims (some newsources haven't even bothered to correct their ( Read more... )

I saw the news about Norway and felt so terrible :x It's normally a really peaceful country :x

Here in France we never called it terrorism (which it isn't per se, since he was acting all alone). I see that news called it "bomb attack" from the start (and also massacre).

But yeah, terrorism isn't muslims x___x We have a lot of terrorists here (Corsicans used to be much more active than what they are now), not to mention the Basques and all x__X' Guess we are more used to terrorism than the US in many ways.

On the bad news, there is also a train that derailed in China :/

I hope that Amy Winehouse can live a better life next time. Because yeah, I don't think she was that happy in this one. My thoughts to her family and friends as well.

I was reading news articles where the people of Norway were so saddened by the events because now soldiers are everywhere, and they're just not used to that kind of thing. Because of what you said--they are generally very quiet there.

I don't know what the French government considers terrorism (I believe there's heavy debate about the term anyway), but in general, terrorism is basically political violence that disregards the lives of civilians and is meant to incite large-scale psychological fear. In this case, yeah, it's terrorism. Domestic terrorism, but terrorism nonetheless.

Well, the US is used to terrorism; we're just not used to calling it that when it comes to violent acts committed by non-Muslims, and that's absolutely ridiculous.

Well, terrorism is that, but in French it's also implied that you have to be part of a terrorist group which wants to spread those ideas through violence.

Its definition in this case is: "Ensemble des actes de violence qu'une organisation politique exécute dans le but de désorganiser la société existante et de créer un climat d'insécurité tel que la prise du pouvoir soit possible" which means:

"Group of violent acts that a political organisation does in order to disorganize the existing society and create an insecurity climate so that the takeover would be possible."

In this case, the man was alone, and doesn't want to takeover, so 'terrorism' isn't the right word, in French anyway. But yeah, saying about something that it's not terrorism just because Muslims didn't do it is pretty stupid and it distorts the word. As the same as saying "terrorism! Muslims did it!" when obviously they have no clue.

See, this is why I love learning about languages. Differences like that are important in a political discourse between nations. Well, for me anyway, it was an act of terror, so I'll stick with that.

Apparently, the media initially blamed the Muslims without thoroughly researching it and basing it on somebody's word. And you know, in the world of social networking, it just spread like rapid wildfire. Very scary when you think about how many people depend on the news and how many people are just too lazy to fact check beyond their television.

Terrorism is an awful thing. No peaceful country deserves to suffer from it.
