Advice needed!

Has anyone ever studied philosophy before? I'm just beginning to wade into Plato's Republic and I'm not entirely certain of the best way to take notes on the text. Right now I'm inclined towards tracking the two sides of the argument by noting the flow of statements and rebuttals. Has anyone come across a better way to handle this?

Only method I've heard involves great quantities of whisky. *grins*

Good luck.

Hrm... only problem with that is wanting to remember it the next day. *winks*

That's easy. Just drink the next day, then you'll remember it!

;)

Seriously, from what I recall of the phil courses I took, the best strategy seemed to be to note what the arguments either way were, and note the arguments the prof liked best. I didn't do too well, but that might've been because I wasn't keen on being political to get marks.

If you like diatribe, asking Quentin (parsifal on this forum) for his opinion...
