So it looks like my chance at straight A's is shot. I missed a quiz for my online class back in February because I was in the hospital, but my professor said not to worry about it because she'd drop the lowest quiz grade. Now, she's saying that that isn't the case, and so I am missing an A by less than 1 point ( Read more... )

First off,
I completely agree with your last sentence.

Did you email your professor and explain the situation again?
It's not like this is some bullshit excuse,
you were IN THE HOSPITAL and you STILL cleared it with her,
which shows an incredible amount of responsibility on your behalf.

Thanks, Janessa! After my last final on Tuesday, we should definitely plan a lunch/coffee/something.

You really do have options, though.
Formally petition for a grade change. I know you can do that here, so I'll bet you can there. Or re-take it this summer.

Hmm, I'll look into that. Unfortunately I can't re-take it this summer because I have to get below a C to re-take a course for the nursing school. I'm also already taking 2 summer classes, so I don't really have room for another :-(

I'd be very surprised if you didn't have the option of petitioning for a grade change. I think most schools have some mechanism through which that's possible, to avoid situations like this.

yeah, it's totally fucked how much everything depends on grades and it kills me every day that i have to care about grades and it makes me not want to try in the first place. so you're way ahead of me that you can make yourself care. that's definitely an important step.
