My Dad has all of a sudden gotten it in his head that it'd be a good idea for me to join the Navy as a nurse. He's sending me link after link to websites about their medical programs, and he even got my mom excited about the idea ( Read more... )

Civil engineers get the same treatment. My counselor sends out email after email of Navy opportunities.

I'd do it, if I wasn't fat and lazy. I would love to be in the Navy and serve my country and get paid well to do it.

But I'm overweight, out of shape, depressed, and not changing my ways anytime soon.

Are you interested at all? It sounds like it could be sort of a neat adventure. Plus, your health insurance would be amazing.

I'm interested in it enough that I told my Dad I'd meet with a recruiter to see what they can't tell me about the program. I mean, I don't even know if I'd be able to stay at ASU, which is a huge factor.

And yes, the healthcare is amazing. I've been enjoying it as my dad's dependent for several years now!

what a ridiculous choice! i can't believe you have to decide on such a long term commitment, jesus, lately i've been thinking about how being in school for four years is kind of a long time to be committed to doing that one thing... one thing that is generally extremely flexible and fun, anyhow. anyway though, you're awesome, so it doesn't have to be a terribly stressful decision because ultimately, you'll still be 'you' in either situation and so it will be crazy and valuable and exciting.
