Much as I love Philippa Gregory and enjoy her Elizabethan bodice-rippers, what she writes isn't really very medieval. It's so modern in its sex-is-compulsory mandate - like in Constant Princess, when she writes in the Author's notes she really thinks Katharine lied about her virginity? It seems to me that at this point in history people would be much more concerned with the idea of breaking an oath or lying to God. That said, her characterisation of Henry VIII is IMO 100% plausible. And the books are my guilty pleasure.
I agree with you 100%. Her writing style is very easy to read and makes for excellent summer read but you definitely need to keep an open mind when it comes to historical accuracy and medieval atmosphere. I heard she wrote another one now, about Elizabeth I, which I haven't read. Must check it out before I leave for holidays this summer ;)
