Why God Is Not Neccessary for Morals

"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death."

where it's god damned hard to be godless. I can't imagine what the South is like, either.
Having said that, have a lovely Xmas day with the white tree and true loves and friends.

It certainly is nice being in a country -- at least a part of a country -- where religion isn't that big of an issue. The South was a mixed bag. If you surrounded yourself with friends and family who weren't fundamentalists of one form or another, you could live pretty peacefully. You just learn not to bring up certain subjects in unknown company. Sometimes, it's just not worth the argument!

I hope you and your family have a beautiful holiday season and maybe get to do a little bit of ice skating!
