Piranha?

Lately I've noticed that Tabby puts her paw into her water bowl before drinking from it. It's very cute to behold but I can't help but wonder what she is checking for.

Floyd drinks water from his paw when the level in his mug gets too low to stick his face in. He also uses his paw to CLAIM MY TEA AS HIS OWN. Not that I'm bitter.

Some cats rather lick a wet paw than lap from the bowl. Maybe she's doing that??

Nope. The paw goes in, the paw comes out, the face goes in... you do the hokey-cokey etc etc.

Maybe she's checking the water level so she doesn't dunk her head. It's possible her eyesight's not so good.

Cats don't see brilliantly close-up come to think of it, I think I recall reading somewhere that their focal point is 2 or 3 feet away. That would explain it but I prefer the piranha theory.
