the joys of abridged dictionaries

Oct 18, 2005 13:54

I just had two dictionaries try to tell me there was no French word for 'sane'. While I would like nothing better than for that to be true, they were in fact crappy dictionaries.

I need to stop trying to start any papers before the last possible minute. It just ends up wasting time.

Maybe the French are all crazy. Or maybe they are the few enlightened among us who recognize that the whole world is crazy.

Malheureusement, le francais a le mot 'raisonable', et des synonymes. Les dictionnaires que j'ai utilise etaient du merde.

I am more inclined to believe the former.

Oh, by the way, the song that you are talking about is, I believe, called "Dress Rehearsal Rag," and Leonard Cohen only played it in a few concerts during the late 60s or early 70s because too many people were using the song as a soundtrack to their own suicides. I suppose we didn't have the same population propblems back then that we do now. Perhaps someone should perform it at the next budget forum???

Anyway, I am assuming that you have a copy of whole album "Songs of Love and Hate," in which case, you know the song "Avalanche," right? Great fucking song! I am going to use it to open the film version of my novel.

"Dress Rehearsal Rag"--that's right, I knew that. Actually, Gabe's old hard drive has "Songs of Love and Hate", which I'm not sure whether I've listened to all the way through. Odds are I've heard "Avalanche", but I don't recognise the title. I'll look it up.
