I am classically defined as "never without a smile." It's true, I enjoy people, and talking to people, and joking with people. It's hard for me NOT to smile.
Having said that, there are a number of aspects of my life that I'm not satisfied with, but one in which I am very pleased is the time I spend with my friends.
I like what I read once, that you get the relationships you think you deserve. It was talking about love but I'm certain it applies to any form of friendship as well. It seems like you've grown out of some relationships with folks and are now looking for different possibilities. It happens and it's okay. All for your betterment right.
I think maybe you should think about cutting off ties with the really toxic people, and try to meet new people. On the other hand, I think the 20s is one of the most depressing ages, because everyone is out of college but hasn't gotten enough job security/experience to really do what they want to be doing, or make enough money, or settled for the soullessness of their current jobs. We're all still dealing with the fact that our dreams probably either aren't going to happen, or have at least been delayed. It's a very hard time to be at that age, too (with the current economy and all). I don't think most people are really happy with their lives right now.
**hugs** I hope you find people like that soon, Bad-Meg-san. I kind of agree with kisekinotenshi, too. If the people around you are always cranky about life, the mood tends to wear off on you, and it can make it hard to see how awesome life is/can be. 'Course, I also agree with hir on the whole "then again, the 20s kinda suck..." thing, too. Quarter-life-crisis, anyone? ^^;
