And now, the
Wednesday: Arrived in Dewey around 7. Checked into the hotel, which sat on the bay. Walked over to the beach to get first glimpse of the ocean in about 8 months. Breathtaking, as always. Went to Dogfish Head for dinner with my brother, Warren & Ang, and my parents. Back to the hotel around 11, pretty much crashed after watching the Weather Channel for a bit.
Thursday: Up around 7. Ran into my dad outside. The weather wasn't great.. it was really windy and kind of overcast. Sat by the bay for a bit. My mom came down and we went to breakfast at Sharkee's. Back at the hotel, I think we wasted some time (I wrote) while waiting for a phone call. Took some pictures of my brother and Jill, then went to CVS to get them developed which took forever. Stopped into a couple of the outlets in Rehoboth, got khakis and a grey long sleeved shirt from the Gap. Was really disappointed with the J. Crew outlet. Back to the hotel again, think I wrote some more before going over to the rehearsal. By this time, some of the wedding guests had arrived. Did the rehearsal thing (which was really.. scattered), then went to dinner and I got severely bored. Opted out of going back to the Dogfish for drinking purposes, and headed back to the hotel with my grandparents and my aunt and uncle from NY. Went and sat on the beach, by myself, for a bit, then sat around the pool with my family and chatted before heading to bed.
Friday: A bunch of us hit Sharkee's for breakfast, then my mom, dad, and I layed on the beach for maybe 2 hours. Absolutely gorgeous day. Was peer-pressured into going down the slide at the pool (everyone did it. swear), then had to run up and shower/shave super fast in order to get to my hair appt. Went and did that.. had kick-ass hair. After that, I had some time to kill.. mom bought me a smoothie. Hung out by the pool talking to Bev & Lori and reading the Washington Blade. Eventually went up to my balcony and wrote some more before forcing myself to get into my bridesmaid dress. Headed out to the state park in Bethany and took a bunch of wedding pictures on the beach. They should be amazing, except we kept squinting. :) After that, we drove back to Northbeach for the wedding. The ceremony was amazing, especially when I walked down the makeshift aisle and half of my relatives were cheering me on from the back row. :) They also barely recognized me all done up. Okay.. truthfully.. the ceremony was a bit long. It was on the bay, right on the water. Loryn got a wicked sunburn on her back. The reception was so-so. Ashley & Mike had the BEST wedding reception this summer. The music for J&J's reception wasn't great.. not enough dancing. I also had a wicked tension headache throughout the wedding and reception. Warren gave me a neck massage, then later on, after the ice fights (long story.. funny, but long), Steph rubbed it for a while. Got to hang out with my cousins from Virginia who I never see. The reception ended at 9, so we all traipsed back over the the hotel and partied by the pool. My mom was so shit-faced. So was Ashley. Ashley almost took a fantastic spill onto the cement. I spent most of the night on a lounge chair (after finally meeting Dip! and getting another massage from Warren) with Linda B (Julie's mom), Ashley, Mike, Kofi, and Ali. Lots of laughter, great conversation.
Saturday: Tried to sleep in.. but failed. Again, up by 7:30. Went to breakfast with my dad, my aunt & uncle from Va. Met more of our group at Sharkee's. My mom appeared a bit later and endured great ridicule for being so smashed the night before. I loved on Lily, a 5 year old yellow lab for a bit. :) A big group of us walked on the beach for a bit. So many lesbians! I was a happy camper.. loved Rehoboth. Want to move there. Anyway, back at the hotel, since it was overcast again, I decided to go to downtown Rehoboth with Bev & Lori. We shopped for a while, had a long wonderful lunch at Tijuana Taxi. More great conversation. Bev is one of my mom's cousins, and she's been with Lori for nearly 20 years. Great role models, and they're just wonderful to me. I had a lot of fun with them on Saturday.. not that I don't always have fun with them, but I think this was the first time the three of us hung out and just talked and whatnot. Came back, I changed and went to the crab house in Salisbury, Md with a group of people. Also fun.. even though Ali and I both opted for the chicken and not seafood. :) Lots of laughter, again. I love those people.. my very large non-blood related extended family. Even though I was exhausted, I went with everyone to the Dogfish to meet up with my parents and everyone else. Played pool with Mike. Almost won. We all hung around the pool again when we got back, and that's when I nearly choked to death on my own saliva. Yup, that was fun. Went to bed. Ali stayed with me that night, and cracked me up around 2am because she was talking in her sleep.
Sunday: UP EARLY yet again. But nearly everyone was. We went to the Starboard for breakfast.. good stuff. And then.. BEACH DAY. It was SUCH a beautiful, perfect beach day. And the waves! God, they were perfect. I was in the ocean for almost 2 hours, it was that good. Other than that, I worshipped the sun as I always do. Managed to burn the top of my right hand.. and nothing else. After quality beach time, my mom and I (we're hardcore; everyone left before we did) went for Grotto pizza, then packed up and left. SADNESS. We didn't want to leave.
I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff, but whatever. Suffice it to say that I had an amazing 5 days, and I've adapted some new attitudes and came to some conclusions. Everything is balanacing out. Finally.
