Bonsoir, mon ami(e)! French class has been grueling and fun and all kinds of hilarious, and our teacher is very gay and very awesome. 8D I feel very accomplished now that my Friends page is a bit more manageable - and very, very ~free~ and ~un-awkward~ too.

Anyhow~! I was drowning myself in worry unhealthy amounts of coffee over June and July, and ( Read more... )

First and foremost, classics-- eeeyeaaaah, I'm not a big fan of them, fancy metaphors and stiff dialogues and all. I prefer contemporary novels, but then I also know about that 'unspoken rule' you're talking about and I've thus made it my mission to read some of them. I was really surprised, therefore, to see that some actually made it into my 'favorites' list. XD Crime and Punishment is one... but out of that list of yours, I think that the only one I've read is The Hobbit - which is epic, man, epic. So yeah. XD Totally rec'd. Currently, I'm reading Count of Monte Cristo and I'm loving it. XD ( ... )

You're right - classics are just so... stiff and often follow such strict grammar rules - there's not much stylistic independence. But yes, most classics I've read were boring (I can hear the classics fanatics screaming for my blood already D:) That 'unspoken rule' is like a needle constantly poking at my masochistic conscience, so yes, I have read quite a lot of classics. Some of them really did make it into my favourites! (Like... Jane Austen and Alice in Wonderland).

And oohhhh. Crime and Punishment. I haven't read it, but I think the writer is supposed to be Russian? It's supposed to deal with morbid/sensitive subject matters though.

If we're talking contemporary novels, I haven't read much beyond Marquez, Dan Brown, The God of Small Things and the customary Mafia-themed stories - there are probably more, but those are the ones I've liked most. Sometimes though, I feel as if some of the more popular ones are crowd pleasers. I do have a copy of The Count of Monte Cristo (an old one, but dammit, it's so rare over here!) but I have ( ... )

So true! XD Also, whenever I admit my dislike for classics to people, they give me this 'ugh-how-unrefined' look, which I really hate, because the people who do that are pompous, pretentious, posturing idiots (you can tell by the way they speak and the superficial, generic insights they share XD Sorry, there are a lot of them at our university and at our high school, spoiled rich kid types who like to believe they're intellectuals). *gets shot* *is not kidding about being a misanthrope*. They're like people who go to an art gallery filled with the mess of an art form that people call 'abstract', and say "oh, how profound." pffft ( ... )

And yes- quarter life crisis.. There's always that crippling uncertainty you feel about finding your purpose, deciding what you want to do with the rest of your life and-- feeling like you're wasting time. <-- spot on, lol. It makes my mood really labile. lol. One minute I'm fine then I think 'life, erk, what do I do with it? what have I done with it?', and I get all gloomy. And yes, the icons really are deceptively cheerful and innocent. Inside me, there's an evil dictator. lol. XD XD. But I think I'm taking it pretty well too, all things considered. The stories my friends tell me about their anxiety are scary as hell. x.x It makes me wonder if I really am taking life seriously. But hey, you know what they say, don't take life too seriously. After all, you'll never get out of it alive. lol. or something like that ( ... )

Lol yes! I've had quite a few people shove me towards this, but I-- I'm sort of intimidated by the length. >__>;; I'm downloading the episodes though - I plan to start watching them after New Year's. 8D
