Picspam:Why I Ship Cara/Kahlan Like It's My Job:
Cara is bad. I don't just mean bad ass, I mean bad. With a capital B. She's killed a tortured countless people, including (though under false pretenses) her own father. And among the innumerable people she has killed is none other than Kahlan's sister and nephew. Cara never felt remorse for her actions, and is unapologetic, she did what she was trained and built to do. She even gave Dennee a quick death, something almost unheard of from a Sister of the Ageil.
Yet, in the scene capped below, Cara apologizes to Dennee. She does not want nor expect forgiveness, but has come to understand it is the thing to do. it's what people do to acknowledge they have hurt someone. This apology is not just for her and Dennee, but for Kahlan as well.
To see that not only does Cara accept her actions were not 'right', but that she is willing to put herself forward and hold herself accountable for them without the threat of death hanging over her head.
This is Kahlan's affect on Cara.
In Light and Dark we see Kahlan and Cara bonding. There's, for the most part, no one else around, and they are left to their own devices. During this time, Cara realises how weak 'love' makes Kahlan, a strong powerful woman, weeping over a sword. This clearly confuses and disturbs Cara. But during these episodes we also see how strong Kahlan truly is, withstanding the pain of the Agiel. The longer Richard is away, the less Kahlan lingers on those emotions, the stronger she becomes, borrowing from Cara's strength and turning back into her bad ass self.
Without saying how I am not a Richard/Kahlan shipper and the million reasons why, I can't go into too much detail on how refreshing this symbiotic relationship is. But they do work and feed off each others energy. As can be seen in the caps of them fighting, whether it's a D'Haran horde or Sister's of the Light, or even each other. The two ebb and flow together in beautiful choreography. Their fight scenes are more like dances.
And then there is the beautiful relationship the two have which develops naturally over the course of the season. They go from enemies to friends. And yes, as a shipper, in my mind if not something more than something very like it, or with the possibility of it in the future. I mean everyone cheered when we found out Kahlan counldn't confess Richard, but I know I wasn't the only one who strongly suspects that episode we saw Cara NOT get confessed by Kahlan either. Even if the feelings aren't fully returned by Kahlan, the love and devotion Cara shows towards Kahlan in the things she is willing to do for her (hello Princess dress and rhyming) screams out to me across the veil, forever destined love of ages or not.
