When one decided to travel through worlds it was always a sensible idea to keep a few of the more important guidelines in mind, more often than not it additionally proved to be more than worthwhile to also keep varying comments from those with experience to hand as well. One noticeably reoccurring statement, frequently brought up by a far from amused individual with a snarl and several fruitless threats, was that upon making the cross into another dimension there was an annoyingly higher chance for getting into a troublesome predicament, which would likely span over the entirety of the stay, than having peaceful move and quiet break in an otherwise hectic life. It was as though the sheer fact they were travelling to avoid chaos and danger wasn’t enough of a disruption in life, the method had to conspire against any and all dimension hoppers and find new ways to hit home the fact that it was an unnatural experience and shouldn’t occur in a stable naturally functioning world.
With luck as terrible as theirs, it was hardly a surprise that when two particular twins arrived in a specific world that they were quickly roped into an extremely tedious task preventing a quick move to another more favourable location. A common townsperson, or a normal person in general with the term being used loosely, had the potential to simply be abandoned along with their request regardless of how long it would take for one of the twins to convince the other that their own personal matters were far more pressing. When a more important presence made its desires known, or simply decided to exact a frustratingly long punishment task, it was a great deal more difficult to ignore said individual and simply leave without a second thought. Thos were the people who had the power to cut off the dimension, to keep them stranded, and then make the twins pay for an exit while having their own task completed without so much as lifting a finger of their own.
Unfortunately for the twins then had come across both problems, a chaotic event and an individual who refused to let them move on through a more powerful method than simple words, upon landing in their next stop along the endless road through dimensions. The situation had caused a rather loud and aggressive comment, seeing exactly who had control over their strings in a sense had simply brought forth a rather offensive string of otherworldly sounds to the equivalent of thankfully lacking in a translation swearing. It was an act which in itself had caused further grief in the form of an additional undesired workload on top of what had already been shoved over their heads. The older twin had very calmly nudged his younger counterpart before another fit of anger could complicate matters further.
As it had worked out the duo had been reduced to setting off on their own solo tasks, for the time being no longer the inseparable vampires but simply the calm collector and the extremely volatile shopper. The latter couldn’t quite comprehend why he had been set the task of going out to buy various items from a list, he lacked the details of how to make a worthwhile purchase and was far from experienced with the art of finding items by their varying names, the fact that he had been given a small creature as his shopping assistant did not make things better in his mind. Although he did appreciate the little being’s company for what it was worth, and it’s assistance in quietly pointing out what item could be found where certainly couldn’t have been done without.
The younger vampire sighed as he absently rolled his shoulders, counting to ten and back again in order to calm his mind. The last thing he needed to do was work his nerves into a fit over the witch of a woman who had pushed him into the rather degrading task, all the while still in the rather crowded public. Making a sharp clicking sound with his tongue the lone twin swept his gaze over the immediate area for his currently missing temporary companion, for the life of him he couldn’t remember why exactly he had let the little ball of fluff and magic bounce off on its own. Too lost in his own thoughts to really care about the important creature’s safety, not the most intelligent move he had made in his life especially not when it had simply made the whole trip longer with an unwanted perching on a wall for a makeshift lookout. The prospect of a damp bench was suddenly far more appealing than the dry concrete. Unceremoniously dumping the various bags to his side, the vampire sighed and hunched over, his own little habit for the first signs of impatience both at the fact that he now had to face the misfortune of the loud population on the streets and the long wait he would likely have to endure depending on the specifics of how far his small tagalong had strayed and what purpose he had actually darted off towards. Eyes darted between the passing families, odd glares and flashes of not so impressive but still noticeable fangs in the directions of anyone and everyone who happened to give him a less than favourable look. There was a reason why he didn’t enjoy company of others, with the exception of his brother and few select others on the odd occasions, he simply didn’t play well with those who were normal and found it far more worthwhile to remain distanced than to strike up a pointless conversation.
His thoughts were about to stray to mentally cutting down the rather ridiculous outfits and appearances of one very specific group who happened to be strolling down the main road, obnoxiously giggling along the way, when a rather loud squealing caught his and the attention of many others within the vicinity.
“Kaaaaamui~!”
The vampire in question cringed at the volume his name had just been churned out at by his previously missing makeshift companion. In one fluid movement the vampire gathered up the shopping, nails ripping little holes into the thin plastic handles, and swiftly moved to the currently bouncing creature. Bags were rolled back to hang from a wrist as he freed a hand, snatching the fuzzy being mid-jump with a grip firmly around two long ears while promptly moving onwards and aware from the stares burning into his back. The complaining from the darkened Mokona were ignored as the twin strode onwards with the full intention of getting away from everyone who witnessed that little event, pondered on how much he was have to pay if the small magical being was brought back in a less than pristine condition.
He moved forwards, letting his feet lead to wherever they seemingly had in mind, carefully placing his struggling captive up onto his shoulder as his wrist began to strain under the undesired weight from the shopping. The plastic proving to be a vicious material as it began to bite into and pinch at the bare portion of skin on show from under his otherwise caught up sleeve. Mokona seemed sensible enough to perch quietly and merely give vague directions back towards the witch’s hut or sorts. People walked past, girls giggling and point at the fact that the vampire had a small and clearly cute toy upon his shoulder, buildings scrolled by with their similarly painted windows depending on which street they inhabited.
Kamui came to an abrupt stop, stepping forward to look into the window of an out of place store, a book shop surrounded by clothing stores. He gave the small being on his shoulder a glance over, a knowing glance and short nodding motion was all he needed to prompt a trip inside.
Subaru sighed slightly as he shifted the large item to balance on one of his arms, the other outstretching to open the main door to a familiar witch’s dwelling. It was late evening by the time he returned, if the position of the moon in that current dimension allowed for the time to be assumed by its position, the package he had been sent to retrieve had been a little more problematic than originally assumed to move. Whatever the box contained had steadily begun to move, a little at first as far more erratically by the time he approached the shop and faced the trouble of getting the item into a certain individual’s hands.
The weight shifted on the box, becoming lighter until it was removed from the vampire’s hands, allowing for the door to be closed and locked up for evening. He glanced over towards the witch who seemed to be otherwise occupied with peering inside at the contents which had been retrieved. The woman took her time inspecting the moving inhabitant of the box before looking over the twin standing rather out of place still by the doorway. A knowing smile graced her features as she waved him to follow her, although not waiting to check whether he was indeed keeping up. Not that it would have been a surprise if she simply knew that he would follow regardless of there being a check of sorts or not, the woman always seemed to know more than she let on after all.
Twisting corridors, lined with varnished wooden doors and elegant well conditioned screens respectively, rooms otherwise sealed off from wandering eyes. Not that one could see much in the dim light, the only bright source coming from the crack under a doorway up ahead, rays spilling out for the little gap between a dark wooden panelled barrier and the frame in which it would usually rest within. The witch waved the twin further forward, gently tapping him forward by the shoulder into the quiet room. He stepped carefully onwards, not sure what to suspect initially although his wariness was soon put to rest after resting his sights upon the figure and a half currently still on the bed in the centre of the room.
Upon the covered surface, resting upon the sheets lay Kamui, a book of some description to one side and a small fuzzy creature very calmly snuggled up under his chin, a rare sight even for Subaru to see. His brother was effectively cuddling something. And the older vampire knew all too well than his brother was far more in favour of curling up on himself and receiving the hold as opposed to giving such an expression out to another. He glanced back, expecting to see the witch still standing just outside of the room yet instead being met by the sight of a simply empty corridor, the vampire smiled all the same before moving his attention back to getting his brother a little better suited for sleep. Namely by moving the book off the bed and attempting to get the vampire and small creature under the covers instead of on them.
Careful quiet movements as he moved around the bed, gaze meeting a rather extensive collection of books piled up. It didn’t take much more than that for Subaru to catch on as to why Mokona had fallen asleep within the company of his brother, the small creature had likely been reading out-loud for his twin until they had both eventually dropped off, very likely partway through the book currently resting beside the two of them. The vampire shook his head very slightly, a fond expression falling upon the sleeping duo; as he removed the mass of printed paper from the blankets to move it on to place it upon one of the numerous piles. A quiet mumbling caught his attention.
“...Didn’t get to introduce you...” There was no point in asking for Kamui to explain further, it was a fairly regular occurrence for him to make off statements in his sleep seemingly at random. Still...Subaru couldn’t help but tilt his head a little before carefully moving to perch upon the padded material. Perhaps if he stuck around long enough then his twin would let another vague comment slip out, or he’d roll over and partially squash the little furred being currently in his grasp, bother were had the potential to be possible.
Yuuko adjusted the lid of the box she had gained that evening, fingers trailing over a small piece of plastic that had been out of her sight during the day. A card. A knowing smile as she glanced behind her in the direction of the room the two vampires were currently staying within.
