I was going to vote for him once he got the candidacy, but in the last few months his compromises have bothered me. But I was always going to vote for him because McCain bothered me a whole lot more ( Read more... )

Asking as a non-US person - do you really think Obama has a chance at winning?

Cos I have to tell you, the opinion amongst the Ozzies I know is that he's the right choice - but that the US just isn't ready for a black president.

I actually think he does. A really strong chance. The only thing that would kill him now isn't race- the US is ready for this change for the most part (can't do anything about the crazies...)- but the religious right who oppose his beliefs on other issues. It's political now, IMO, though race is a part of that too, I don't think it's the biggest part.

And of course, there's the liberals (including me) who are afraid of him becoming tooooo moderate to court them
