Sibling Bonding

I laugh in the face of pain ...

My sister, Kelly, came to town yesterday around 11:30 for our day of Brunch and Tattoos. We went to the Top and had a delightful conversation about life, relationships, our parents, tattoos, and more. Katie was our waitress, which is awesome as she is one of my favorites : ) I was a bit nervous about getting the tattoo. No matter how many people told me what to expect or how much detail they went into, I still was a bit scared. I told my sister I had bought some cloves and would probably be smoking in front of her. I had never done this. Anyway, we finished Brunch and headed over to Body Tech a few minutes early. The appointment was at 1:00 and we got there about 12:40. Our artist was Kenny, who I met when I set the appointment earlier in the week had seemed very laid back and amusing. When we got the yesterday, he appeared sleep deprived after a long Saturday night. Being a little nervous already, this didn't put me at ease. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and by the time we got back into the studio area he was awake and ready to go. I told Kelly I had better go first so I didn't wuss out after watching her. : P Yes, I know I am a big pussy!! I told Kenny I have gotten a bit weak in the knees before having blood work done, and was not a big fan of needles. He was cool and said we'd go at a pace that was good for me. He was ready to begin and said he was going to do a quick line so I'd know what to expect. My sister took my hand and he began. My sister looked at me and asked if I was okay. I looked at her, rolled my eyes and said something along the lines of ... "Are you fucking kidding me??" I know, the placement of my tattoo is meaty and not nearly as painful as other locations. I know that the tattoo is tiny and only took like 15 minutes. I know that many of you have much larger, intricate pieces, and I mean no disrespect. I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW LITTLE IT HURT!! I was stunned and laughed my way through the rest of it. The only downer is that my sister and I both forgot about taking pictures during mine (sorry to let you down Shanny-Jack). We finished mine up, and I went out for a clove while he cleaned up to get ready for Kelly. It so happens I brought along my other design I have wanted for about 16 or 17 years. I brought it inside with me and set it to the side as he began work on my sisters tat. She was a pro and amused Kenny and another artist with stories of her love of Hot Yoga. They thought it was insane that anyone would want to do yoga in a 100 degree room. She finished up and asked him if he'd take my bandage off so we could get an after picture of both of us. He laughed really hard and said it was not the best idea. He offered to do it if we really wanted, but I told him it wasn't a big deal. Then I pulled out the Celtic Triskel design. He seemed to really like the design and was excited about the prospect of doing it. He's going to do some research, and see what he can find before giving me a call. We'll see where it goes. I understand the addictive nature now. Getting this tattoo with Kelly was about sibling bonding. About 3 years ago when my sister and I were not very close. It was then I decided we needed to have a closer relationship, and we have been building it up ever since. For me, this was the final step in solidifying our closeness. It was very important to me and I couldn't be happier we did it. So, the plan for my next one is in the works. I expect it will not be as painless on my left shoulder blade. After all it is a larger & more detailed design, but I am looking forward to it! : )

Feel free to comment, if you got negativity, keep it to yo-self! Oh, and kudos to chron_job for suggesting mirroring it on our legs!!
