Although I've known Steampunk fashion has existed for some time now, I have never been into it. Until very recently, that is! I'm quite thoroughly obsessed with it now - and I have been thinking of decorating my craft area (future craft area - I just bought a house) in some sort of steampunk/mad scientist fashion. Sorry this reply is a bit late, but I am doing this with my study/sewing/craft room! If you are fond of Victoriana, Victorians were particularly fond of excess, so clusters of things that you like sprinkled around the room is good. I think the most fun part of the job is first thinking about what kind of storage and functionality you need and then approaching it with a steampunk aesthetic. I keep my massive collection of fabrics in a group of beautiful but mismatched chests and baskets on a painted shelving unit, lending that collected-over-time look. I've got a collection of bottles on my desk's shelves, some of which are just pretty and some of which actually hold my oils for making bath goodies. I've been wanting to incorporate a wooden test tube stand with tubes full of goodies--I don't bead, but if you do, I think that would look smashing with different colors and levels on display.

For the mad scientist look, American Science & Surplus has all kinds of bits, bobs, and gadgets that will whir, spin, and otherwise delight ( ... )
