Supper Club Recipes: The Taverns of Colonial Williamsburg

Jul 12, 2008 19:23

Over eight months after the fact, and to celebrate my newly cleaned Dutch oven, here are the recipes from our supper club.

For the record, these are the recipes as they are in the cookbook, and won't reflect any changes we made for our presentation.

I'm fairly certain that you cleaning the Dutch Oven is one of the signs of the apocalypse.

Well, it was finally safe to do so.

Under the right circumstances, my sinus' reaction to mold can sideline me for most of a day. The last time I peaked in the Dutch oven I was forced to lie down for an hour until the inflammation went down. This time I took the oven outside, and was prepared to hose away the offending mold at a distance with the hose...only to find it gone. Apparently it had asphyxiated.

Which goes to show, some problems do go away if you ignore them.

I laughed out loud when I read this. While it's incredibly gross, I've had exactly the same experience: after our first neighborhood summer party, we never did completely clean up the porch. And we left one of the Gatorade containers just sitting out on the porch, along with the coolers. The water in the coolers turned strange colors and developed mold floats, and opening the Gatorade container sometime in October was the stuff of nightmares.

So I left it there. Until about April.

And, as you experienced, the mold all died! So much easier to clean up! Hooray!

(We have subsquently been much, much better about cleaning up post-party.)
