Here's chapter two, this is fresh off my brain so I apologzie for any mistakes in grammar. My beta(aka my gf) is sick or she would have given it a looking over. Three days of getting this hashed out and my muse can finally rest :)

Title: Tears of Blood, House of Rain

Author: Anakin1218

Chapter: 2

Rating: R (for sex, language and violence)

Pairing: Mutt/Indy

Setting: During the events of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Author notes: I’ve tinkered around with the story, consider this set with in the timeline of the movie but I’ve paced things differently, changed events. Any errors are my own and I don’t own the Jones boys just playing with them.

The rain had finally abated just after dawn; the silence left in its passing was deafening. Indy shifted his weight on the earthen floor trying to ease his back. Mutt had finally dozed off and now lay curled in his arms, both where wrapped in several tattered blankets. A sound at the door of the tent drew his attention, it was Agent Spalko flanked as always by armed guards. “Step outside, leave the boy and come with me” she said calmly never taking her eyes from where Indy lay on the floor, he wanted to protest but knew it would be foolish. “Back soon Pup” he whispered into Mutts ear as he eased himself upright and tucked the boy into the blankets, it took everything he had to leave him and face the waiting Russians. Once outside and out of ear shot of Mutt he turned to Spalko “ I don’t know what you want sister but he cannot be moved for two days till his wound heals, if you want my help  than leave him alone.”  “You have no say in the matter Dr Jones; it does not matter to me who I gather the information from. The boys’ mother was utterly useless so I will turn to you and than the boy if needed.” Spalko spoke with a heartless tone to her voice that made Indy flinch inwardly; this lady was truly capable of anything. “I will allow you to burry Mrs. Williams and attend the boy, you may go now with an escort. “ She turned and waved several of the men Indy’s direction, equipped with guns and shovels. Indy fell into step with them. He could feel his stomach lurch as he walked into the tent that Mutt and his mother had been kept in the previous night. A single chair sat in the center, its sterile appearance clashing with the organic world around it. In the chair sat Mrs. Williams, Indy did not recognize her at first though there was something eerily familiar about her. A whisper of something long forgotten, he shoved the nagging thought to the back of his brain and prayed Mutt wouldn’t try to find him. No one should have to see what was spread before him, half her face was blown away and she lay slumped, held fast by the steel bands at her hands and feet. Moving quickly he unlocked the cuffs, gesturing for the silent guards to bring a sheet that lay near by; Indy was in the process of settling her into the canvas when his brain coughed up that memory.

“No no no! Marion” he gasped as he ran a finger through her hair; one look into her remaining eye and he knew beyond a doubt she was Marion Ravenwood. Swallowing through the bile that was making its way up his throat, Indy walked with the guards away from the tent and down a small hill. Near the forest he stopped, setting the body down and moved to take a shovel. The guards gestured ‘no’ and he had to settle for watching them dig the grave, wanting to impart some comfort to the woman who had in life been one of his dearest friends. Indy sat down next to the silent form and began talking. “You son seems like a great kid, I’ll make sure nothing happens to him and I’m sorry we never had the chance to speak again.” He stopped when he felt tears begin to trace down his cheeks. Brushing them away with the back of his hand he slowly rose and helped lift Marion into the make shift grave. Turning away as the soil was back filled and rocks pushed onto the mound of earth that remained. He gathered several sprigs of tropical flowers; placing them gently on the carrin. Almost as if on command it slowly began to rain, Indy mused it was a fitting tribute to a life so savagely taken. They where making there way back to camp when the screaming started, at first Indy thought the haggard voice belonged to a girl. The swearing that soon reached his ears changed his mind, it was Mutt!  Breaking into a run Indy was soon with in eye sight of the camp, Spalko, half a dozen soldiers and Mutt stood near the tents. The boy was writhing on the ground; screaming and not caring he was soon coated in mud. “I told you I don’t know, fuck make it stop” Mutt demanded as he was wracked by another spasm, his hands where held fast by two immense guards. “Perhaps another will loosen your resolve Mr. Williams” Spalko calmly stated and approached Mutt with something in her left hand, Indy moved to block her but was woefully out numbered and had to settle for watching. Pressed between two more guards, they seemed to be a never ending supply of them. “Hold his left thigh” she barked out the command, once Mutt was held fast she deposited the tiny black item in her hand onto the wound.

“Now talk and fast, if you do not I will place more ants on you” Ants? Indy shoved forward trying to get Spalko’s attention; “you’re going to kill him. You promised me you’d leave him alone” he gestured to a now sobbing, drooling Mutt. “Than you misheard me, I said that you could care for the boy.” Spalko remained detached from the display of human suffering before her; she would break the boy or find someone else with the information. “Ok ok” gasped Mutt totally unaware of his surroundings; he would do anything to end the pain shooting up his leg. “My boots, my left boot unseal the sole and there’s a letter tucked in in there.” He was heaving, struggling to keep talking; “from Ox”.  Satisfied with the information, Spalko removed the two offending ants and shoved the boy away with her foot. “What did you do to him? “ Indy swore as he was finally let go, gently he rolled Mutt over. “You are familiar with bullet ants Dr Jones. It is said the forest itself moves away from them when they swarm”. “You could have killed him, you may have killed him!” The boy was barley breathing, his eyes unfocused and Indy had to fight to keep him calm. “Tend to him later” before Indy could react he was hauled up to his feet and shoved towards the tent he shared with Mutt; “now bring me the boys boot and do as he told us or he will die.” Indy complied quickly, though he hated giving the Russians the information. He knew they would not survive if he tried to keep it to himself. Rummaging around the tent he found the boots and using Mutt’s switchblade he popped the sole loose; there nested in the bottom just as Mutt had said was a note. Well worn, paper thin it was written in Ox’s spidery hand writing. Ignoring the greedy look in her eyes, Indy shoved it at Spalko and made his way through the steady rain to where Mutt lay. As slowly as he could he lifted the boy and carried him back to the tent, placing him on the floor he started listing what was needed. “Water, towels, Aspirin and several plantains; quickly before he passes out. No thanks to you we’re going to have to stay here for four days till he recovers, bullet ant stings continue to hurt for 24 hours. Two bites, its going to be a hell of a 24 hours.” In what seemed like no time at all, Indy was greeted with the requested items; saying a silent prayer for a turn of luck he continued his work.  Using the warm water and a towel he cleaned the mud away from Mutt as best he could, pausing to check the stitches had held fast on his thigh. They had but they where now flanked by two quarter sized red welts that burned hot to the touch. Indy wrapped the area in a cold, clean cloth and wriggled the semi coherent boy into a fresh undershirt and boxers. No easy task as he continued to moan and thrash aboutl. Hoping that talking would calm him he began to speak trying to keep the worry out of his voice. “Sorry I left you but I’m here now and staying.” Somehow Mutt managed a glare and huffed “you left, alone”. “Not now” was Indy’s firm reply as he held the boy’s chin in his hands, moving with immense care; normally reserved for priceless artifacts he began spooning the mashed plantains into his mouth. He chuckled when Mutt attempted to look embarrassed; however Mutt quickly gave in to the fruits sweet taste. Food was followed by the Aspirin and more warm water to wash away the sticky clinging mud. Before he’d finished removing it the boy was asleep, muscles still twitching to the dance of the poison. Looking around to insure they where alone, he rolled both of them in the blankets and settled in for a long vigil. The rain continued on, providing a comforting distraction to his racing thoughts; what was in the letter from Ox. How had Marion and Mutt become entangled with Spalko and would the boy even survive the day. A voice roused him from his musings, “I can hear your heart, it helps” Looking down he was greeted by Mutt’s face peering up at him from where he lay against Indy’s chest. “No more ants? I can still feel them” he shivered as tears began to spill from his eyes, embarrassed Mutt lowered his gaze. “Shhhh Pup, easy. Their gone, it was only two but I know it must feel like twice as many.” Indy replied as he ran fingers through Mutt’s hair, “you’ll be hurting for the next day, try to relax and rest. A snuffling sigh greeted his ears as Mutt attempted to get comfortable, Indy rested his head on top of Mutt’s. He slowly began stroking Mutt’s back in lazy long caresses that he hoped would lull both of them to sleep.
