What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Kept a schedule for writing, once in roleplaying, and also in this journal. And not overstressed when December messed all the schedules up. Oh, and put Hubby and I ever having children back in God's hands as it were, as I (and he) figure if it's going to happen, it will happen when we aren't looking for it. And as we're both going into the private sector for jobs this next year (read- little to no time off like in the Military), we figure Murphy might give this a nudge, but neither of us are fussed either way now. Oh, and told stood up to Mom and friends with that, so I (and we) don't have to hear the 'So... how's "it" going?' from Mom and friends.
Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn't make any last year, unless it was to get more organized and use my daily planner more, which I did longer than the year before. And have made three for this year, somewhere back in this journal and the enterprise.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.
Did anyone close to you die?
Yep, my sister's dog Vlad that lived with my Gran and (along with the cats) helped me out of a major depression in '04 by always being uber excited to go jogging. I swear, he was human, except nicer (and in some cases, smarter), and he will be missed.
What countries did you visit?
Didn't. Though we did drive a quick shortcut through Kansas - does that count?
What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Letters from Publishers - Am aiming for as many rejection letters as J K Rowling got before I worry at all. After all, there's some 40? or so agents out there, still kicking themselves.
What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Er. Prolly none, as I am Absolutely Horrible at remembering dates. Positively Time!Challenged. It's Hubby who remembers the dates, and anniversaries (and his married buddys are really jealous of him for that, let me tell you.).
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Having the guts to finally start looking for jobs in the education sphere again. Without any panic attacks, WOOT!
What was your biggest failure?
Freaking when I though my pronz were scaring ppls. *shrugs sheepishly* But that was over the span of like, two days and not constantly even then, so if that's the biggest failure of this year, that's pretty much an achievement, really.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Sinus ick (very little) and a bad writer's block ala panic, but both were cured. Cannot reccommend microwaved damp teatowels over the forehead enough. Or Trashy.com.
What was the best thing you bought?
Hot Topic 'arm warmers'. Yep. Although the boots are a very close second.
Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Good Question. Probably a lot of people, who won't make it into the news and will therefore not be recognized by anyone except their close circles, just like last year, and the year before... ad infinitum.
Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Almost anyone on the News, except for the BBC America News anchors, naturally.
Where did most of your money go?
Books, chocolates, sweets, food. And boots. Oh, and corsets and stockings... All well spent.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Can't tell, it's TMI. But it was (and is) very exciting.
What song will always remind you of 2009?
3. This has been the year of "Oh, that's what that song is about!" ala Willow in Buffy, 2nd or 3rd season (that song was 'I touch myself'). I've been doing that a lot this year, and not just with the new songs. There's a song by Z Z Top in there about a necklace and an Aerosmith song about walking that will do the same. But no, I do know what "Lola" is about. *snort* Hubby finds this all extremely amusing. Particularly the Z Z Top song, but there's a story there I will not be repeating. *BG*
Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) Happier or sadder?
Happier
b) Thinner or fatter?
Same size, but with much less muscle tone
c) Richer or poorer?
Same.
What do you wish you’d done more of?
Nothing particularly comes to mind...
What do you wish you’d done less of?
Again, nothing particularly comes to mind. I actually *did* what I wished this year, and didn't have too many fubars...
How did you spend Christmas?
Mellow, nibbling on ham, watching Monsters VS Aliens with Hubby and Brother (and a B movie after, 'Dark Rising', which went very well with the champagne), and then lounging around doing absolutely nothing. Perfect.
Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
Not a phone person. I'm face to face or online somehow. But prolly Mom back East.
Did you fall in love in 2009?
Yep. With Hubby, and forgot to eat and gushed over him and lost sleep and everything. I'd say see below, but I didn't do details here. *snicker*
How many one-night stands?
None. We tend to go to bed early, anyway; it's more like twilight. Or afternoon. *snicker* Not Spring Chickens, nope, not hardly.
What was your favourite TV show?
Better Off Ted.
Do you hate anyone now you didn’t hate this time last year?
Um, nope. Still, the hate is so much more like contempt rather than hate; it's mellowed with time.
What was the best book you read?
Um. Well, look back at the list, they're all good. Though, in 'effect', I'd have to go for "Chain Reaction", for the action I took buying it and the discussions after it. Yep. That's all. Though Agatha Christie is prolly the best written author I've completed this year...
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Veronicas, and P!nk. And the continuing astonishment that I cannot sing when drunk, save for Irish Pub Songs, and that dancing a jig during the drunken singing of those songs sobers you up faster than coffee. Always astonishing at the time.
What did you want and get?
Something I'm not telling, involving my Hubby. *BG* I have high hopes for 2010 being even better.
What did you want and not get?
Nothing that I can recall, except for them to stop Daylight Savings, since I don't tend to wake up until the sun does, and DS is not fair in the winter.
What was your favourite film of this year?
Star Trek, hands down. Though Monsters VS Aliens was pretty spiffy on DVD.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Good Lord, that was way back at the beginning of the year and that's so long ago I don't remember. Um... 38? It was '71, you do the math. Maybe I'm right for like the fifth time since I was 18, but it's going to change in a few days, so meh, I don't trouble myself... ask Hubby. Seriously.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably satisfying?
Uh.... there's no one thing, really.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
A cross between savvy workout sweats and tops (with shades of green, or hot pink) and black T with kick ass boots and bootcut jeans and 'don't mess with me, and I'm older and have more insurance than you' sunglasses, with occasional 'I don't care, I'm just going to buy books' rolled out of bed and grab whatever rumpled chic. I did add sharp-dressed boots to my fashion closet, which I've never had before.
What kept you sane?
Hubby, Chocolate, Immy, LJ, writing, erotica, and the internet. Sometimes more than one at once.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Richard Armitage, in leather, on a horse. Yum. :D
What political issue stirred you the most?
Err... Health Care. He has cojones, goin for health care, so *snaps* for even mentioning it, let alone throwing it out there on the Floor.
Who did you miss?
More people from my old life than I can count. And some that have passed on.
Who was the best new person you met?
One of my husband's friends, that I finally got to actually 'meet' this year, not at a party of his. He's pretty awesome and fun (hence the parties) and his basset hounds are the bestest funny doggies of *snoreflop* ever.
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
Persistance, discipline and irreverance are all healthy habits to develop (in moderation, of course)
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
As I am Team Spike, I must offer this up, sing it James Marsters, woo-yah!
I planned
each charted course
each little step
along the highway,
And more
much more than this-
I did it myyyyyyyyyy waaaaaay!!
