“Wait, that’s not who I was setting you up with,” Faith points out, motioning to Spike.
Willow smiles. “I know, but he was at the coffee shop when I went, and I wasn’t going to ignore him.”
“Couldn’t ignore me if you tried, pet,” Spike says, smirking when Willow elbows him.
“Anyway, we started talking, and it’s been a while since we’ve both been in the same place so catching up happened,” Willow explains. “And, well, there were sparks.”
“Sparks? Try a raging fire,” Spike adds.
“What about Karen?” Faith looks at Willow and waits for an answer.
“I’m sure she’s lovely, but I was already starting to feel like there might be something worth exploring with Spike when she arrived.” Willow shrugs. “I’m sorry, but she seemed to understand. Not many sparks between us, either, so I’m not sure it’d have happened even if Spike hadn’t been there.”
“Right. If Spike just hadn’t happened to be at the coffee shop where he heard me telling Karen to meet you?” Faith rolls her eyes. “What a coincidence.”
“It’s fate is what it is.” Spike smiles smugly and winks at her before he looks at Willow. “Not like I didn’t fancy Red all those years ago. Life just got in the way.”
“Don’t say anything,” Willow warns when Faith’s about to ask if he’s calling Buffy and Tara and Kennedy ‘life’ now. “You still get to brag that you set me up, you know?”
“It’s more like accidental matchmaking,” Faith says, shrugging. “But it still counts. I can gloat to Buffy about it, and that’s all that really matters. I mean, after your happiness, of course.”
“Of course.” Willow laughs before she kisses Spike. “I’m definitely feeling happy about all this.”
