deianaera’s prompt: Hermione will always be logical, especially when deciding which Weasley is the best.

It’s the only logical choice.

Bill is too arrogant, and Charlie is too cocky.

It’s a combination intended to drive her crazy.

Hermione is glad they have other qualities that more than make up for their worst attributes. However, she is tired of their petty competition that forces her to be in the middle. While she normally enjoys being in the middle of them, it isn’t nearly as pleasurable when it’s them trying to force her to choose.

Their relationship is unorthodox to begin with. A triad involving two brothers is unusual, even in the earliest histories recorded, and it requires a special patience to handle them. Hermione has had her patience tested quite a bit in the last three years, but she wouldn’t trade it for anything. The only thing she’d change is their ability to get under each other’s skin as only brothers can when one of them decides to be an arse. They start trying to upstage each other, to earn her attention, playing on the jealousies that are usually dormant, and she feels like a favorite toy pulled in two directions instead of an equal partner in their relationship.

They’re at it again. Bill is poking at Charlie, playing on old insecurities that normally don’t bother him. Unfortunately, Bill knows how to pull at old scabs, and Charlie lets him get to him every single time. Charlie’s getting angry, snarling a bit in a way that lets Hermione know she has to intervene before they come to blows. Physical violence is probably less damaging than the verbal, but she can normally stop it easier.

“Both of you, clothes off then get on your knees.” She snaps her fingers to draw their attention to her.

“Do you really think this is the best time?” Charlie asks, arching a brow and curling his fingers into his palm. The action makes his arms flex, drawing her attention to the muscles and ink covering his skin.

“Feel free to sit it out, little brother.” Bill is a cheeky arse, and she considers just hexing him to be done with it, but that isn’t likely to ease the tension between him and Charlie.

“Fuck you.” Charlie stands up, stripping his clothes off faster than Bill. He reaches her first, kneeling in front of her and smiling. “What do you want me to do, love?”

“Wait for Bill,” she murmurs, reaching out to stroke Charlie’s face. He licks at her thumb when she traces his lips.

“Too bloody eager,” Bill mutters, pulling his shirt off before he shoves his trousers down. Once he’s naked, he gracefully kneels beside Charlie and demands attention, too.

As she reaches out to stroke his cheek, she looks at them. “I’ve thought of a logical way to settle this ridiculous argument between the two of you,” she tells them. “You keep arguing over who’s the best, and you refuse to listen when I tell you that you’re both wonderful. If being with me causes you to compete with each other, I think the only way to fix this is to stop being intimate with both of you.”

“What?” Charlie shakes his head. “That doesn’t make sense at all.”

“He’s right. It’s illogical is what it is,” Bill points out. “You get us naked and then you tell us you want to end things?”

“I don’t want to end anything, but I’m tired of your arguments. If neither one of you can claim to make me come faster or harder or whatever silly thing you choose to argue about, then we can finally have come peace,” she says, giving them a stubborn tilt of her chin to let them know she’s serious. “You’re naked because I like to see you that way, of course.”

“Oi! We’ve never argued about you coming,” Charlie protests, frowning slightly. “Have we?”

Bill clears his throat. “That’d be my fault, wouldn’t it? I remember recently saying something…”

“In recent weeks, you’ve absolutely horrid,” Hermione says bluntly. “If you no longer wish to be part of this, you just need to be honest with us.”

“Pshaw! He’s not going anywhere. Are you, Billy?” Charlie looks at his brother. “You’ve been worse than a dragon with a burr in its foot, though.”

“I’m not,” Bill says firmly. “I’ve just been stressed at work, and you two are getting closer while I’m traveling. It’s just been frustrating, I guess.”

“You couldn’t discuss this with us?” Hermione asks. She watches Charlie pull Bill against him.

“You wanker. There’s nothing different than when I’m away at a colony for work,” Charlie points out. “Or when she’s got to travel, leaving us to get into mischief.”

She leans forward and kisses them both, just a chaste kiss on their cheeks. “In the future, we talk instead of lashing out. Next time there’s an argument that could be prevented with communication, I’m kicking you out of bed. Understood?”

“We understand.”

They give her innocent expressions as they speak in unison, but the innocence is betrayed by the wicked smiles on their faces. Bill leans up to kiss her while Charlie spreads her leg to give her a different kind of kiss. The argument is settled this time, and she just hopes it’s a while before she has to play mediator again.
