Drop trau/trou/trow?

nothing in the stylebook, I'm thinking trou based on the urban dictionary and a few AP articles, my ol'fogey editor insists it's trow.

Um, "trou" short for "trousers". Find the authoritative spelling of "trousers" and you'll have him in the back of a Volkswagen.

my vote is for 'trou' as it is a truncation of the word 'trouser' which is in holding with the original intent of the phrase.

it has to be trou(sers), though träu is superior is so many ways, including getting livejournal to give you an umlaut. (but, wait, wouldn't träu be pronounced troy? or is this not German? yeah, it will turn out to be Dutch or Afrikaans, or something else not Deutsch and sure not English with its utter lack of visual embellishment ... )
