Has anyone ever considered the fact that maybe a lot of people don't vote because they don't want to take the time to sit down and figure out what the hell all the stuff on the balet is referring to? I listened to someone else I trusted when it came to all the propositions/small-time candidates. They also have the voter's pamphlet and endorsements from different organizations to help people decide.

You're not supposed to 'enjoy' it, I don't think. I mean, it's called 'civic duty' for a reason. It's something that we SHOULD do. And even the fact that you voted for the president (I assume you had already formed your own opinion about that :D) shows you're taking some initiative.

'Enjoy' was meant to serve as an embellishment of what I really meant which was something along the lines of understanding what the hell was going on. I just think that unless people really know what they are doing, they probably shouldn't contribute utter stupidity to the voice of the people.

I think it would be smart if people were required to take some kind of political science class to be eligible to vote...that might not work in every aspect but it's an idea that could be expanded on.

The problem with something like a required class is that it has the potential to eliminate certain groups of voters right off the bat. Unless the class is free, for instance, people who can't afford such a thing will be unable to vote. That discriminates along class lines - and because, statistically, there are a number of people of color in the lower class, it can discriminate along racial lines, as well. I would worry that something like that would be veering a little too much into territory we've already covered as a country - we eliminated poll taxes and property-ownership requirements for a reason ( ... )
