Oh yay, now I know why you are on my flist ♥

Seriously, I'm torn between loving this ep and hating it. I think I ship Arthur/Vivian more than Gwen/Arthur. I don't quite understand the logic of the "we're in love but we can only be together if we marry". Basically the writers screwed themselves when they decided this should be a children's show where everything is black and white. True love = marriage. True love outside marriage = SIN. SIN I tell you.

And where did Lance go I ask you? How can there even *be* adultery when Gwen loves Arthur this much? Did she just forgot Lancelot existed and when he returns she'll just jump lovers again? Seems pretty in character to me

I don't think there's anything I could add to what you said though. I totally agree. I was ok with the concept of Arthur/Gwen as well, I was ready to like it. IF they wanted to go with Arthur/Gwen as the OTP, WHY NOT do it in season 1. Why did they put Arthur with Morgana and with Merlin but not with his supposed "love" (who despised Arthur's guts)? *sigh*

It's okay, the Road Trip of Epicness is calming me a little. They totally teased us with the shot of Bradley getting into the shower.

Yeah, it's like there was one ep where Gwen saved Arthur with her cleavage and then... well, she told him off and he fell completely in love with her? Morgana persuades him to do things in a constructive fashion, whereas Gwen just complains that he doesn't think of others, which is a) patently not true b) pointless and ineffectual.

I don't get why they couldn't have done it GRADUALLY. Grrr. Also, I want to shout at all the A/G fans... "SHE CHEATS ON HIM, YOU KNOW! IT IS NOT IN FACT THE EPIC LOVE OF CENTURIES! FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, PICK UP A BOOK!"

...but I'm in a bit of a bad mood.

it's impossible for Gwen to be OOC when she doesn't really have a character

Ooooh the road trip is up for download yet? I need to watch it x___x As well as the Merlin: Secrets ep. Hopefully Bradley has a few choice words about this ep.

I KNOW. The Gwen/Arthur fans who complain that "Gwen/Lance had 2 episodes" -- guess what, so did Arthur/Gwen! The writers just completely made that up when they decided to follow canon. What ARE Gwen's motives for nagging Arthur anyway? Morgana's his SISTER; what does Gwen want, a better ruler? As if she knows how a kingdom is run; I'm pretty sure she's not quite as politically-minded as Arthur and Morgana. That's the whole POINT: she's supposed to be a vapid bimbo who causes the ruin of Camelot -____- I'm glad they didn't go down that route but the inconsistency is killing me. At least there'll be Morgana next ep.

Am downloading the commentaries, I would like to know what the cast actually think about this season.

SHE CHEATS ON HIM, YOU KNOW! IT IS NOT IN FACT THE EPIC LOVE OF CENTURIES! FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, PICK UP A BOOK!So much word. And before Lancelot arrived on the ( ... )

I'm iPlayering it. Have you seen this yet? http://community.livejournal.com/merlin_tv/719926.html

NOW THAT IS EPIC!

The problem with Gwen, I think, is that her character is basically just... nice. Because she has no other defining character traits, she ends up seeming constantly OOC; she's just written to be able to do whatever the writers want her to that particular ep. I know I had trouble writing her at first, but then I was just all "fuck this shit" and made my own version of Gwen which was as in-line as possible with what we see.

I WANT to like the A/G stuff, but I just can't. Not even Arthur telling Merlin directly that he had hot oil handy could salvage the irritation of this episode.

Also, Bradley gets more stupidly gorgeous every time I see him, I swear. Irrelevant here, but true.

And I can't believe the producers consider this a exciting Romeo/Juliet type romance. Blegh. I hope they can develop Gwen into an independent character next year beyond her just being the love interest.

TBH, Romeo and Juliet is hardly the greatest example of a healthy relationship, but I know what you mean. Why am I so actively irritated by A/G, though? Like, every time I see them on an icon or someone innocently says "I ship A/G!" then I start automatically judging that poor soul. I don't hate either character - Gwen's not my favourite, but I don't hate her - yet together they're just TERRIBLE. Urgh. I want to like this ship, but I really can't...
