jack, i'm not sure if it's politically correct to even ask people "how much change do you want back?"
since some people don't tip you anyway, you might as well give them their change and hope that they give you a tip out of it. at least that way it will prevent awkward moments as described above in your entry.
and i'm not going to be able to make denise's bday either so you won't be the only JACKass. hehe.
1. Cashiers don't expect tips. Drivers do. 2. I don't think it's rude to ask them how much change they want back. That's what all the other drivers do. 3. I know that the tip shouldn't be acknowledged, but you don't know how many times people mention it. They'll say "Keep the change as your tip" or something like that. 4. Actually, it's not my obligation to give them all of their change. We're not required to carry coins, so unless someone gives you exact change (which pisses me off, but whatever), they don't make a big fuss about the 30 cents that you're keeping. 5. I could have made it to your "bash" if you had told me about it before Saturday. I'm not blaming you or anything, but I definitely would have asked off for Wednesday night. 6. I didn't think my grades were THAT good, but thanks.
oh yeah, and the reason i get shitty tips is because most people in hammond are either living right above the poverty line or are college students. i'm lucky to get $50 at the end of a 9 hour shift, but in mandeville, drivers routinely make more than $100 for the same shift. it sucks hardcore.
