So here's my deal....

I need a therapist.

I don't want to see someone on campus.

My Health Insurance will cover 40 visits per year.

The only therapist my Dr. could recommend does not take my insurance.

I have a list of the therapists who do (and it's not a very long/inclusive list)

How on earth do I pick someone, out of a list, to whom I can ( Read more... )

You will be just fine. My suggestion for the therapist, just like any other doctor, set up an consulation with 1-3 that are within a reasonable and comfortable distance, and go from there. But the end of the first session, you should be able to ascertain whether or not that treatment will be beneficial to you and who you are more comfortable with. Accept that it may take a few visits before you feel yourself settling down. It may take a few more after that before you feel a sense of relief and well-being. The key is to stay relaxed and open about the experience, and try to stay focused on why you are there and what you would like to get out of your treatment. And when all else fails, you have unfaltering support of your friends and family.
