I have to share this thing of beauty with you:
Leo McKinstry: 'Sorry not to join the liberal wailing: heroin traffickers deserve to die'This is an opinion piece from the Daily Heil about Akhmal Shaikh, who was executed by lethal injection in China this morning for drug smuggling. He was caught in Urumchi with a suitcase containing 4kg of heroin. ( Read more... )

How predictably appalling.

Ages ago, I did an interview with a morning radio show which seemed to be going well until the host's parting question, asking me whether we couldn't solve the drug problem in the U.S. like they do in by cutting off the hands of those convicted of drug dealing.

I think that people and the media aren't entirely rational on the subject of drugs or the death penalty but that could be my appalling woolly-headed liberal foolishness.

I think people in the media are entirely rational on what sells editions/attracts eyeballs, that generally being smirking apoplexy, but that could be my unremitting cynicism these days.

That is extraordinarily depressing. Also, they can't add up the ratings. It's probably the iplayer rather than the disconnected plotlines that's made RTD's viewing figures fall.

All of the ratings fell. All of them, on all channels, not just the BBC. I suppose that fact is only fit to be buried in the umptieth paragraph. Graaaaagh. I despise the Mail.

I've always enjoyed Charlie Brooker ever since he said about The Wire, "This show is so good, it could literally fart in my face and I'd still love it."

Now that's a pull quote. It should have been printed on the box sets.

There is nothing barbaric about the death penalty.

Apart from the bit where you kill a human being. That's a bit barbaric.

You must be one of those filthy liberals. You probably don't even believe in corporal punishment, the abolition of speed cameras, route marches for all those on incapacity benefit and the compulsory sterilisation of council house tenants. I tut in your general direction.

Fox over here has been showing fake pictures with their coverage. Like showing "Huge attendance at a Sarah Palin booksigning" with coverage from the campaign. Or covering one of their self-created Tea Party rallies with footage from other events.

So it isn't irrelevant pics, it's deliberately falsified pics to forward their agenda presented as fact. I think that's even worse.

Not familiar enough with the Mail to know if they do that.
