Pulling the ice axe from my leg, I staggered on, spindrift stinging my remaining eye

So this new year's resolution plan isn't going too well. If I want LJ/DW to be a lovely healthy place where I read all sorts of people saying interesting things, I have to try to write in it. Otherwise everyone will go to Facebook or Twitter and I really, really can't stand those two. I don't give a shit about your score on Farmville or whatever ( Read more... )

How lovely to see you! And with loads of new music. I have been rubbish. Time to rectify.

Also, I love Half Man Half Biscuit.

Hooray! I was wondering whether anyone born after 1990 and outside the UK would find HMHB even comprehensible. Anyway, hope some stuff works for you. I didn't listen to much new stuff last year but I did like those.

Absolutely loved the The Gilmore 'Sol Invcitus' (but it's very cold here). And Uggie!! Very sweet. :-)

Nice to see you around, and thanks for the music recs! Especially Anna Calvi, because, damn. That was not what I expected. Am a bit blown away by that video.

Hello. Anna Calvi is interesting. Apparently her speaking voice is the opposite of her singing voice -- all small and almost giggling. (didn't hear it myself)

Music! Yay! Thank you! I'm not sure what all of these I already have, though at least I do already have a large Alex Cornish collection.

Facebook and Twitter make me twitchy.

I believe there's a new AC album this year. If it's more of the same, I would be fine with that.

/nod to Anna Calvi and Metronomy.

Suggest Ren Harvieu's 'Through the Night' (album due April I believe) and Howler's latest 'Back of your Neck' Also spending time with The Young Knives.

So you went to Half Man/Half Biscuit. I went to Pizzicato Five. Funny how these things roll around.

Oooh. I shall look up Ren Harvieu. I have heard the name but not Howler.

I liked a lot of the Young Knives (first?) album with the weird morris man on the front but I didn't know they'd done anything else.

As for HMHB and Pizzicato Five, maybe comfort music was in order in summer. It felt like everything fell to bits and HMHB at least made me laugh

I have revisited a great deal of old music in the last year for writing purposes. I sense I need a soundtrack for most things in order for them to be successful :D

I hope you like some of them. All of Anna Calvi is good if you like a bit of operatic angst.
