A month before his second year of high school started, he had stumbled into a website that had the information that he had been looking for. He had broken up with his last boyfriend, who had been a jerk, a week ago and now, he wanted to find someone worth his while. Online dating had turned out to be boring and after he had talked to a very nice woman, who was looking for her “soul mate”: the word became interesting to him.

He typed in soul mates in a search engine and by the end of the night; he had come across list after list of superstitions about love. He knew of some of them, for example throwing a coin into a well and making a wish. He had never heard of others like writing the names of the people you know in hazelnuts, throwing them into an open fire, and the first one to pop out will be your future mate. He had scoffed before closing the tab on his web browser. There was no way those superstitions would help him.

He tried to focus on the image but it did not get any clearer. He could see a silhouette but his eyes couldn't focus anymore. He closed his eyes to blink and when he opened them, the ceiling of his room was what greeted him. He scoffed and ran a hand down his face.

"Aish it was so close!" He gripped his hair and pulled. “I must be going crazy.” He added as he let his hair go and his arms bounced on the bed. His eyes turned to the lemon peels on the bed and frowned.

"It didn't work".

He glared at the peels for another second before standing up. He would have to try the lemon peels and sleeping with the mirror under his pillow at the same time since they had given him some kind of result. They would probably work better together. Now, he just had to remember where he had left the mirror...

A wave of frustration coursed through his body. He had become interested in the love superstitions he had found in the internet and had started to try them out but none of them gave him good results; only weird thoughts and even weirder dreams. He had been trying everything and anything he found for two years, he was tired of it, and on the verge of being annoyed. Another thing that had changed was that now he had a small crush on his best friend ever since the year had started. By now it had grown, and that had him on edge as well. If Myungsoo where to notice that Sungyeol liked him, he didn’t even want to imagine when the younger male would say. It was better if it remained a secret. Sungyeol had showered and was finishing getting dressed by the time that a knock was heard through the house; it was probably his best friend.

His graduating class would be kind of big: about 400 kids and Myungsoo was not one of them. He knew about Myungsoo's existence since the younger male entered the high school given the fact that most of the girls in the school had been crushing on the "most handsome soccer player the school” had ever had.

He had been envious of the younger male because of all the attention the female population had bestowed on him even thought Myungsoo was barely a freshman. Sadly, none of the girls (not even one) seemed interested in him and that ticked Sungyeol off to no end. That envy lasted until the end of the school day on Valentine's Day when he found the younger male carrying two medium sized trash bags. The younger man wasn't struggling but Sungyeol wouldn't want to have to deal with what he saw today. He had seen girl after girl hand Myungsoo something: a box of chocolates, letter, or a card. They never really stopped and with that he felt bad for having envy of Myungsoo.

He had barely even talked to Myungsoo and he was already thinking that he was a bad guy. He offered to help Myungsoo carry one of the bags but was turned down. From there, he tried to talk to Myungsoo more and finally because friends with the younger male during a school field trip. By the end of his junior year, they were becoming best friends.
Now it was November, it was kind of cold, and he was almost done with half of his senior year. He opened the door without asking who it was and Myungsoo was sitting in the couch in front of the TV a few seconds later. They started to spend their days together during the summer after they became friends and it was now a habit: they would spend as much time together as they could. The TV could only provide so much entertainment and once that got boring, Myungsoo asked if he wanted to go “out”, and Sungyeol agreed.
“Where are we going?” Sungyeol asked as he grabbed a sweater, just in case, and headed towards the door.
Myungsoo shrugged as he followed the other male towards the door, there was no plan, and they never had a plan. The older understood that from the gesture and locked the door after Myungsoo stepped outside. They talked as walked for a while and another good part of the way was spent in silence. They reached a building that advertised itself as a café and Sungyeol took a deep breath as he stepped inside. The aroma of coffee and cinnamon filled his noise and he smiled in delight. The establishment had become one of Sungyeol’s favorite since there were tarot card reader, and palm readers that any of the customers could consult for a small fee. The fee would be a lot cheaper than what he would be charged in a consult and he liked that about the place.
Myungsoo lead them to the counter and both took a seat in a booth after placing their order. The café was relatively empty and their orders where fulfilled quickly. Sungyeol’s cup of coffee with cream and no sugar was half empty when a woman walked up to their table, a deck of cards in her hands. Upon a closer inspection, Sungyeol realized it was a deck of tarot cards. She asked them with a smile if they wanted to have their cards read and Sungyeol bit his lower lip as he considered his options. He was with Myungsoo and the younger male knew he was interested in superstitions but that didn’t mean Myungsoo completely approved. Aside from that, all this superstition was giving him not results. He was frustrated with it and-
“You want to hyung?” The younger’s voice broke through his thoughts
“Ah no I-”
“I don’t mind if you want to get your cards read”
“I think-”
“I’ll pay if you want” Myungsoo looked at him expectantly
“Myungsoo, I don’t want to”
The younger male looked at him before thanking the woman and she calmly walked away after thanking them for their time.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing”
Sungyeol could tell Myungsoo didn’t believe him. “Hyung-”
“I just don’t feel like it”
“But-”
“It doesn’t work Myungsoo”
"How do you know it doesn't work?"
"You know I have tried everything I have found and I haven't found anyone. It's kind of pathetic"
"What have the card readers told you?"
Sungyeol made a face before answering. "The most recent one told me that I will do better in school but that for now I shouldn't look for a job because it might interfere with a relationship that will bloom soon."
"When did you go see this person?"
"Did they tell you what kind of relationship would bloom?"
"A love relationship but no one shows interest in me"
"And where else have you gone?"
"I have gotten my palm read, tried other tarot card readers, and it is just helpless. They all tell me the same thing with different words"
Myungsoo looked down at his drink and stayed silent for a minute before looking up at the older boy. “Want to go see a movie?”

His hair was still wet, and he could feel sleep tugging at him but his mind was racing. He lay down on his bed and sighed. Myungsoo has been acting somewhat odd during the movie and on the walk back. His eyes landed on his phone and he picked it up after deciding if he should ask or not. He typed a quick message and clicked send before looking up at the ceiling. If he were to fall asleep without talking to Myungsoo, he would spend the rest of the night tossing and turning. He held his cellphone tightly in his hand since he was expecting Myungsoo to answer. A few seconds later, it buzzed and lit up.

Myungsoo’s response was an "I'm fine; I’m just thoughtful"
"About what?" He typed back quickly
"I don't know if I should say this or not"
He was in the middle of typing a reply when the alert that a new message was received interrupted him.

"Come outside"

He looked dumbly at the message before shooting up from the bed. The sleep he felt vanished and he looked at the message again just to make sure he had read it correctly. They would get together randomly but it was usually really late at night and when it was hot.

The day had been sunny and somewhat cold so he threw a hoodie on and grabbed a blank it just to be on the safe side before making his way outside. The backyard was not very big but big enough to have garden furniture and the gate that surrounded the house was easy for both, Myungsoo and Sungyeol, to open.

Sungyeol took a step outside and the cold hit his exposed skin immediately. A shiver ran down his spine when his hair seemed to freeze due to the cold. Myungsoo was sitting in one of the chairs that surrounded the center table and Sungyeol walked closer to him before taking a seat in one of the other three chairs.

"What is going on?"

The younger male looked up at him with what seemed to be a surprised expression before standing up. "Hyung, I swear I am going crazy" The soccer player said before he started to pace. “I keep thinking if I should do it or not. Once I decide, I start to doubt myself”
He wasn't sure what to expect but he knew that something was wrong when Myungsoo kept running his hands through his hair. "What are you talking about Myungsoo?" His eyes were fixed on the soccer player even as the younger male moved.

"I don't know if I should tell you or even how to tell you. I was on my way home and decided that I should so I am here now"
"Myung-"
A noise cut him off. He had heard that sound before. The noise was high pitched and it was a combination of a squeal and a desperate scream. The younger male would make that sound when he was frustrated regardless of where he was and with whom. Sungyeol had been to enough games and practices to have witness it on the soccer field. He stood up and blocked Myungsoo's path. The younger male stopped walking and Sungyeol placed a hand on Myungsoo's right shoulder; he was really worried now.

"What's wrong Myunggie?"
The younger male looked at him for a second before breaking eye contact and a whispered "I can do this" reached the elder’s ears. It was silent for a few seconds and Myungsoo rubbed his hands against his hair once again before speaking. "I like you Sungyeol"

Sungyeol processed the information for minute before looking at Myungsoo with a confused expression. "I like you too Myungsoo"

A serious expression took a hold of Myungsoo's features before he shook his head. "I like you hyung, as in really like you" The younger's body language told Sungyeol that Myungsoo was nervous. "So I was wondering if you want to go on a date with me Saturday"

He blinked once, twice, and Myungsoo was still standing in front of him with a troubled expression. Sungyeol could do nothing but let his jaw fall slack.

The soccer player shifted from foot to foot nervously before speaking again "Do you like me enough to go on a date with me?"

There was silence and Sungyeol hadn't moved an inch; that made Myungsoo more nervous. He looked around before letting his eyes rest on the older boy.
"I guess I should let you think about it and just tell me later." Sungyeol remained silent. "I'll be going" whisper Myungsoo before turning his back and he started to walk away.

Sungyeol looked as the younger male walked away; Myungsoo’s stiff posture and his hands were curled into fist. The soccer player was about to reach the gate when Sungyeol got over the shock.

“M-Myungsoo” That froze the younger male in place and his stance seemed more rigid. It was silent for a few seconds, Myungsoo could hear his heartbeat pounding in his ears, so when an arm wrapped around his shoulders and his back met Sungyeol’s chest, a noise of surprise escaped his lips.

“Let’s talk inside Myunggie” said Sungyeol. His breath hit Myungsoo’s ear and neck. A smile formed in his lips when he felt the younger man shiver, and his right hand slid down the length of the other’s arm and took a hold of the younger’s hand.

Myungsoo bit his lower lip to hide a smile. The older male released him from the embrace but by the way his hand was being held, he had a feeling that he was not leaving anytime soon.
