Yet, it was here and now as he read an email entitled “Distraction” with pictures and videos linked. The email from one of his managers said that he noticed some things that he felt might endanger his image. He wondered why the manager sent it to him, they usually pulled them aside if they felt there was a problem. The normally smiling and carefree Dongwoo noticed picture after picture that threatened to shatter his image and idol status.
“Yah! Hoya!” Dongwoo shouted as he stormed into the dance machine's usual place, the dance studio.
“Yo!” he greeted in English with a wide breathless smile. He wiped his face with a towel while chugging a bottle of water allowing a few droplets to slither down his chin and neck.
“Don't you 'yo' me! Why do you always do this?!” Dongwoo asked, voice raised.
“Uh... Dance or say hi?” Hoya asked, confused at Dongwoo's tone of voice. The usually happy and, only loud when laughing, joking rapper seemed upset.
“No not that! I meant, this!” Dongwoo had downloaded pictures off the internet to be better prepared for his confrontation. The two rappers were together in a lot of pictures but most of them showed Hoya leaning in looking suggestive, or Hoya hugging Dongwoo from behind, those always showed Dongwoo smiling but blushing shyly.
“Do you know how hard it was to build my image?! You KNOW how hard it was since I don't make good first impressions!” the older boy huffed, crossing his arm. He didn't know why, but the images made him feel all hot inside. He figured that's what anger felt like.
“Oh come on hyung, it's all just skinship, but I'll stop if it bothers you that much.” Hoya resolved. But Dongwoo was fired up.
“It's not just that! What about 'We Got Married' that was your idea too!” Dongwoo remembered.
“Oh yeah, haha, that was kinda fun, but Hyung that's what it was, just harmless fun.” Hoya assured, holding his hands up in defense and smiling.
“Kinda fun?! Harmless? H-Hoya we're both men! And you should SEE what some of these fans write about us!” Dongwoo protested, eyes wide, face crimson.
“That kind of stuff isn't as weird anymore hyung, you're over reacting, besides, our fans like a little Fan Service.” Hoya chuckled.
Call him a liar if he said he had never read fanfiction. Hell, he started right after he shot his coming out episode on Answer Me 1997. The reactions from the fans were astounding, and after looking into a few stories of his character and the lead role, he stumbled across some related links. Thus, YaDong was out in the light to him.
“But Hoya~ it's more than THAT too!” Dongwoo all but whined.
“Aish, there's always more.” Hoya sighed, sitting down on a chair that he was using for a dance, “Okay, now that I’m comfortable, go on and get it all out.”
Dongwoo noticed a small smirk play at Hoya's lips, making his frustration even more than that of earlier.
“Okay then, Hoya.” He took a deep breath, “Remember when we were in Japan?”
“Japan? There was a lot of Japan.” Hoya wondered.
“Yah! Don't interrupt!” he scolded the younger, “When you mention that you washed my back before.”
“But that happened, I remember when we showered together too.” He laughed remembering.
“Ahh! How can you just bluntly say it like that!” Dongwoo shyly laughed, covering his heated face, remembering the event.
“Okay, so what about all the fan cams? You're always doing things that look, suspicious. Or that time that you kissed me on the cheek! At that soccer game, a few fans caught that kiss!” By now the oldest was pacing. The more he remembered, the more the heat built up. He was starting to notice things he'd never thought of before.
“Hyung, we're friends, if I hug you or do things, they don't mean to be 'suspicious' at all. I do them because I’m comfortable with you. And the kiss was, well just a kiss on the cheek. Like I said, things like that aren't weird these days.”
“Hoya~ I know we're friends, and I love being your friend, but when we're out, we have to be somewhat professional, we have images to uphold!” Dongwoo finished, crossing his arms and looking down at the seated Hoya.
“Hyung, what's this really about? Some fan fiction, some fan cams, and pictures... What's the problem?” Hoya finally asked, defusing any bravado that Dongwoo had.
“I, I just, you know... My image! You're always so cool and suave and handsome. I don't have that going for me like you or the others!” Dongwoo hung his head a bit, “I mean, what if my fans ONLY like me because they like you?”
At this Hoya stood up and pushed the chair away roughly.
“Dongwoo hyung, don't you EVER say that again!” Hoya had grabbed Dongwoo's shoulders, making him look directly at him. Dongwoo could see a bit of anger there, “You are an awesome dancer, you're funny, you're so cheerful, and you're cute.” Dongwoo blushed looking away, but feeling a little better, Hoya took the opportunity to continue, “Did I ever tell you how much I like your laugh?”
“... Oh hush, I feel like I can get annoying sometimes.” Dongwoo dismissed hesitantly. He was blushing even more than usual. He didn't know why, but Hoya calling him cute made him warm inside.
“No, no, really. I like your laugh a lot. It comes from here,” He paused to poke the slender dancer in the stomach, causing the other to giggle, “And from here” he poked a finger at his chest, the dancer would be lying if he said he didn't feel Dongwoo's heart thump against his finger, “I like it. A lot. It's real, it's genuine happiness when you laugh, and it's contagious.” Hoya confessed with a smile. “Hyung, I think I can see where a lot of your frustration is coming from. But when I hug you, when I’m constantly next to you, when I’m with you, or even when I kiss you, I like it.”
Dongwoo swallowed, as Hoya spoke he had began to step forward causing him to back away, but now his back was against the mirror, and Hoya was standing very close to him.
“Hyung, do you think it's wrong?” Hoya asked low. His hand had reached up to cup Dongwoo's creamy cheek.
“Wh-what? Do I think what is wrong?”
“That I like being around you. Or rather, that I like, you.”
It wasn't a question. The last part was not a question at all. Dongwoo chanced a look to see if he could see if Hoya was just kidding around. But he didn't see any hint of a lie. His face burned and his pulse quickened,
“Y-yah!” he lightly pushed Hoya away, moving passed the dancer, “S-stop kidding around!”
Hoya reached out and took a firm hold of the other rapper's wrist, pulling him into a hug. His arms tightly holding the thinner boy around his slim waist.
“Hyung, I meant it. I really do like you. But if you tell me it's wrong, I'll stop. I'll leave you alone.”
Dongwoo stared wide eyed at the reflection of them hugging in the many mirrors on the wall. His face was red, he always blushed easily, everyone knew it.
“H-Hoya...”
Hoya took the older boy's moment of hesitation as an opportunity to turn him around lightly and press him against the wall of mirrors.
“Hyung, the things that I do, the things that I say, are all true. I do like you. If your fans, if our fans can like you, then why can't you believe that I like you?” Hoya paused to look into Dongwoo's brown eyes, “Ok, so I took your frustration as an opportunity to finally confess to you. But I really do mean it, every word of it hyung. I. Like. You.”
Hoya ran a hand down Dongwoo's cheek, again. This time the older didn't move away, instead he leaned into the touch. Hoya smiled.
“So answer my question, is it wrong?”
Dongwoo blushed. He felt the heat inside him, but now he knew that it wasn't anger that he felt. Now he knew. When he saw Hoya dance “O”, Hoya's antics on Ranking King that made him blush, even the feelings that Dongwoo felt while watching the drama, it all made sense. He wasn't angry when seeing the pictures, he wasn't angry when seeing the fan cams, and he had to admit he enjoyed some of the stories. He looked into Hoya's fiery gaze, he felt this heat, this warmth, because he too liked him.
“N-no Hoya, it's not wrong.”
Hoya smiled, his face glowing,
“Good.”
He leaned in and pressed his lips onto Dongwoo's. He felt the other tense up, but only for a moment before he began to kiss back. The kiss didn't last long but both boys remained holding each other. Everything was finally right. Everything was brought to light, and everything seemed resolved, finally.
Both boys were so wrapped up in the warmth of their new found feelings, they failed to noticed a set of eyes watching them from the door they once used to escape their managers. The two watchers clapped hands, celebrating their mission accomplished.
