Might they finally do Spikelus?

Nov 23, 2014 07:57

So for some reason I was thinking about the comics last night at work, namely the last couple issues and the released covers for the next few. They seem to be pushing the Spuffy hard. A little too hard if you ask me. When was the last time they released a TPB cover before the first issue of said trade installment was out, much less 2 months before ( Read more... )

Eh, even if they do, readers can always reasonably assume that it's a robot.

Don't be silly. They'd never do something that lame! Of course, Robo!Jonathan could always be the Big Bad in a not-at-all shout-out to Avengers 2.

That might actually be what they're heading for. They've been Angelizing Spike in a number of small ways, and now they're gonna have him go soulless and eeeeeeeeeeeeeevil. (Never mind that would make no sense whatsoever.) But even evil Spike really isn't much of a Big Bad -- let's face it, Buffy can kick his ass, and I have a hard time imagining that they'd have her paralyzed by loving him too much, because that would mean actually confirming that she does love him.

Show!Buffy can kick his ass. Comic!Buffy, I'm not convinced can take Xander.

Yeah, that's the problem with the whole thing. It doesn't make sense, but that's never stopped them before. It's one of the many things that keeps a reader from being invested in the story.

Yeah, I think the same, but at the same time it wouldn't shock me that it's what all the 'oh, you weren't so bad' crap was about. It doesn't really have to make sense for them.

Well, Comic!Spike is pretty incompetent in a fight, too, so who knows. *g*

Harmony-Xander, redux! In comic form.

Well whatever it is we already know it's all going to end in tears. Nobody stays happy for long in this verse. Just another case of 'rinse and repeat'. *g*

Yeah. Any time they're hinting at your ship mid-season, your warning bells should be a'ringing.

Pretty much what rahirah says.

Must admit, though, I thought it was a two issue arc and the next three would be about something else.

Personally, I'm not expecting anything more dramatic than Spike pulling an Angel from BtVS season 3 and leaving Buffy for her own good (though of course the impact would be a lot less, as Buffy isn't in love with him).

On the other hand, if he does, it'd be pretty hard to keep him in the Buffy book for the last 12 issues. Maybe they're going to send him to Angel's book so Victor Gischler can write the Spike/Angel relationship badly too?

Yeah, something else that he can't remember the name of. Of course it could be Espenson's Andrew arc, but then they'll be at 15 issues with no BB. Maybe there isn't one or maybe one of Angel's will crossover, but... it's just they're pushing the Spuffy covers hard, especially with the early Trade cover release.

That's what I thought, too, until the point you raised about there not being a Big Bad yet, or even a hint of one. Something has to come up in the next TPB bracket. Again, as you say, what are they going to do with him if they do do the S3-ish leaving? A&F's is already full (Nadira, Pearl, Amy, Faith coming back, the flashbacks). BTVS has nothing. No word of a mini-series. He could just disappear with Dylan (what they'll do there, I dunno), but that seems completely anti-climactic with all the pimping.

Re the Big Bad, at some point, whoever it is who wrote the rules in the Vampyr! book that made the vampires get more powerful will be revealed, I assume. But since this hasn't been mentioned for several issues readers might well have forgotten about it, so the mention will seem less like foreshadowing, and more like a ridiculous deus ex machina ( ... )

I thought about that, too. The book never left their possession, though, afaik, except for the brief stints in S10 and the more powerful vamps were already around then. We could be asked for conveniently forget that, though.

oh, I dunno, trying to rape Dawn or whatever, just sounds way too edgy for this book.

Oh, definitely not that. Though it wouldn't shock me if they'd have him kill her or Xander or something.

You're making up that thing about the three issue Andrew arc, right? Well, Espenson and Greenberg are supposed to do something with Andrew at some point. Maybe it'll be the back part of this upcoming arc. I was just guessing ( ... )
