Over the last couple days I've been reading posts, mostly the 2016 memes of what people liked or didn't like in terms of music, movies and TV. Doing so really highlighted how not much of last year's entertainment did anything for me. I enjoyed some things, namely Stranger Things and Better Call Saul S2, but at the same time never wanted to post

Yeah, the bubble is nice but at the same time it's a rather lonely place.
just a general 'it's been many years and I'm a bit tired of discussing the same thing over and over.'
I think that's a big issue with Buffy/Angel. Maybe it's the cynic peaking out but a lot of the meta I read on it really felt like it was trying to look for something that wasn't there just to have something different to talk about.
Can't help you with your missing fanfic, though the plot does sound very similar to a 'spoiler' for Chosen released by someone on a very Xander-centric board, who turned out to be making the whole thing up. ;)
I remember something like that. But nah, I'm pretty sure it was a B/A writer. Probably wouldn't live up to my memory anyway.

I agree, and it's certainly my impression of what little of the conversation (if you can call it that) I've seen on Tumblr.
As for the rewatch on Buffyforums, those long, rambling posts which go off at a tangent so much do my head in. I just can't be bothered to read them. I suspect there's an awful lot of putting stuff into it that isn't there going on.

Probably. Where I usually tune out during those things is all the talk of foreshadowing and parallels. I just don't believe the writers put all that much thought into it. I prefer rewatches like y'all do at fantas. Just straight forward, slightly snarky commentary rather than "Spike looked to the left here. Note there's a streetlight on that corner. This is clearly an allegorical foreshadowing for his turn into a warrior of good in 3 seasons."

Honestly I'm feeling the same way, there's been a few new shows that I've checked out and enjoyed, but more and more I find that I'm barely keeping up with any of the current popular shows or fandoms. I just don't seen to get very passionate about newer shows, most of my tv watching consists more of nostalgic rewatches of my old favourites
ETA It doesn't help that I find myself bored to tears by the current trend of comic book shows and films, and that seems to be where all the most passionate fandoms are. Urgh even Doctor Who's Christmas special was focused around superheroes and paying homage to the Superman comics :stifles yawn:

Same. I've been rewatching Lost, Angel, Buffy, Sopranos, and the like.
Even the shows I do like and want to keep up with, the hiatuses are soooo long. While shorter seasons do tighten up the writing somewhat, it's hard to keep interest for a year or more of nothing at all.
I'm not a an of conventional superhero stuff, either. I don't mind if it's a backdrop like Buffy, but Superman, Batman and all that? Not for me. I find some of the movies somewhat enjoyable, but those are one and done.
